*Position Overview: *We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Low Vision Provider to join our clinical team. This role will conduct comprehensive low vision evaluations, prescribe appropriate optical and adaptive devices, and provide patient education to help individuals maximize their remaining vision. The ideal candidate will be committed to patient-centered care and comfortable working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Vista Center has a clinic in three locations: Palo Alto, San Jose, and Santa Cruz. We are looking to fill services in each location and are open to filling this with one rotating full-time employee or multiple part time/contractors.
This role is ideal for an optometrist who is passionate about functional vision, rehabilitation, and helping patients achieve meaningful independence in their daily lives. Vista Center’s clinic is focused on longer, relationship-based visits and serving clients with complex visual needs in a collaborative, non–high-volume clinical environment.
The Low Vision Provider works closely with a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team that includes social workers, orientation and mobility specialists, occupational therapists, assistive technology instructors, and rehabilitation counselors. Collaboration and communication across disciplines are central to our approach, with regular coordination to support patient goals and outcomes.
Additionally, our Clinics are equipped with a range of low vision devices and assistive technologies to support comprehensive evaluations and patient training. Administrative and billing support is provided to allow clinicians to focus on patient care rather than administrative burden.

*Key Responsibilities: *
* Conduct thorough low vision evaluations and assessments for patients with various visual impairments
* Prescribe and train patients on the use of low vision devices, including magnifiers, telescopes, electronic magnification systems, and other assistive technology
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient goals, lifestyle needs, and visual capabilities
* Provide patient and family education regarding visual conditions, prognosis, and adaptive strategies
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements in our EHR system
* Understands and complies with HIPAA and Vista Center’s patient confidentiality guidelines
* Collaborate with rehabilitation staff, social workers, and other team members to ensure comprehensive patient care
* Participate in clinic operations, quality improvement initiatives, and community outreach as needed
* Ensure compliance with Medicare, insurance billing requirements, and healthcare regulations
*Required Qualifications: *
* Doctor of Optometry (OD)
* Current, active license to practice in California
* Specialized training or significant experience in low vision care
* Strong clinical skills in visual assessment and low vision device prescription
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Commitment to serving diverse populations with compassion and cultural sensitivity
* Bilingual preferred
* Ability to transport themselves to the Vista Center branches
*Preferred Qualifications: *
* Board certification in low vision rehabilitation or related specialty
* Experience working with Medicare and insurance billing processes
* Experience serving blind and visually impaired communities
