Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Reports to: President / CEO
Direct Reports: Payroll Manager, Finance Staff / Interns, Outsourced Accounting Firm (AP/AR)
Status: Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the overall financial health, integrity, and sustainability of the organization. This role provides strategic financial leadership while ensuring strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and accurate financial reporting for a workforce of 700+ employees.
The CFO oversees payroll, cash flow, outsourced accounting services, and financial risk management, and serves as a key advisor to the CEO on financial strategy, labor cost controls, and growth decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Executive Leadership
- Serve as a core member of the Executive Leadership Team
- Advise the CEO on financial strategy, risk exposure, and growth planning
- Support long‐term planning, budgeting, and forecasting aligned with operational realities
- Participate in executive decisions related to labor costs, contracts, and expansion
Financial Management & Controls
- Oversee payroll operations ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
- Ensure proper segregation of duties between Finance, HR, and Operations
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and reserve planning
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness
Accounting & Vendor Oversight
- Oversee outsourced AP/AR and accounting firm
- Review monthly financial statements, variance reports, and reconciliations
- Hold vendors accountable to service-level and compliance expectations
- Ensure accurate invoicing, collections, and expense management
Compliance & Risk
- Ensure compliance with wage & hour laws, payroll tax requirements, and financial regulations
- Partner with HR and Compliance leadership to audit classifications, timekeeping, and payroll practices
- Support legal, union, and regulatory inquiries related to finance and payroll
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop the Payroll Manager and finance support staff
- Establish clear financial reporting rhythms and dashboards
- Build scalable finance processes to support continued growth
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of progressive finance or accounting leadership experience
- Strong experience overseeing payroll in high‐headcount environments
- Knowledge of wage & hour compliance, labor cost accounting, and internal controls
- Experience managing outsourced accounting or finance vendors
- Proven ability to operate at both strategic and hands‐on levels
Preferred
- Experience in service, facilities, unionized, or labor‐intensive industries
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent experience
- Experience supporting executive leadership and owner‐led organizations
