*About the Role*
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a hands-on execution role focused on strengthening the reliability, security, and operational hygiene of REVIV’s AWS platform. The role exists specifically to reduce operational risk and eliminate single points of failure in how the platform is managed.
Success in this role is measured by increased predictability, safety, automation, and shared understanding of the platform — not by heroics or ad-hoc fixes. The emphasis is on ownership and follow-through: identifying issues, defining solutions, implementing improvements, and ensuring they are completed, validated, and documented properly. The long-term aim is to make the platform less dependent on any single individual through robust systems, automation, and process improvements.
This is not a junior or ticket-taker role — but it is also not a staff or architect position. The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer reports to the Head of Infrastructure and is responsible for delivering concrete improvements across the AWS estate.
*Operating environment*
The role operates within a real-world AWS environment spanning approximately 20 accounts within an AWS Organization. This estate includes a mix of legacy systems and newly designed platforms, with significant variability in infrastructure quality, documentation, and maturity across accounts.
Some areas of the platform are well-architected and clearly documented; others will require investigation, clean-up, and professional judgement rather than predefined instructions. Candidates should be comfortable operating in environments where not everything is tidy, and where the ability to assess, prioritise, and act independently is a core part of the job.
*Key responsibilities*
*Infrastructure Ownership & Execution*
- Take ownership of defined areas of the AWS estate, including:
* IAM hygiene and access clean-up
* account structure and configuration
* security hardening initiatives
* cost controls and optimisation
* operational tooling and utilities
- Identify problems, define solutions, and own improvements end-to-end — from investigation through to implementation, validation, and documentatio
-Ensure infrastructure changes are safe, reversible, and well understoo
-Take responsibility for unclear, unsafe, or neglected infrastructure areas — do not wait for tickets or detailed instructions
-Ensure work includes validation, documentation, and consideration of long-term maintainability — not just initial implementation
*Platform Safety & Reliability *
- Implement and maintain:
* guardrails and policies
* automation and preventative controls
* audits, reviews, and clean-up routines
- Reduce blast radius and operational risk through careful design and execution
- Identify unsafe or unclear configurations and proactively resolve them
*Operational Improvement*
- Deliver medium-sized, well-defined improvements, such as:
* removing manual operational steps
* locking down insecure configurations
* making existing systems safer and more predictable
- Gradually turn recurring operational work and firefighting into systems and automation
- Improve documentation and visibility of how the platform operates
*Incident Support & Prevention*
- Support incident response and recovery, including investigating root causes across infrastructure, configuration, and deployment pipelines
- Participate in post-incident reviews and remediation work
- Translate incident learnings into preventative controls and long-term systemic improvements — not just restore and move on.
*Skills & experience*
*Essential*
- 3–6+ years’ experience in infrastructure, platform, SRE, or DevOps roles
- Strong, hands-on experience with AWS in production environments
- Solid understanding of:
* IAM and access control
* networking fundamentals
* compute and cloud primitives
* infrastructure-as-code approaches (Terraform)
- Experience:
* supporting production systems
* handling incidents
* cleaning up unsafe or inconsistent setups
* removing manual operational processes
- Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar systems, services, or architectures quickly and work effectively across infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and application deployment boundaries
- Willingness to engage with build and deployment processes, including application-level tooling, when required to resolve issues or deliver improvements
*Desirable*
- Experience working in regulated or security-conscious environments
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting practices
- Exposure to cost optimisation and cloud financial controls
- Experience working in multi-account AWS environments (AWS Organizations, Control Tower, or similar)
Pay: £55,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
