Principal Structural Engineer

• Design & Analysis: Create and analyze complex steel structures using Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to support submarine builds through FEA and classical calculations.
• Regulatory Expertise: Apply your knowledge of regulations that extend beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, Codes of Compliance, Weld Specifications, and Geometric Tolerance.
• Data Interpretation: Utilize computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
• Manufacturing Support: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures.
• Technical Outputs: Produce concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs that meet contractual requirements, target dates, and budget demands.
• Quality Assurance: Check and approve calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Essential:

• BEng/MEng in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Civil/Manufacturing/Structural background with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status nearing CEng.
• Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
• Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
• Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, lifting handling, and LOLER.

Desirable:

• Familiarity with ABAQUS, S-Frame, NX, MathCAD, and Excel.
• Previous experience in a production/marine production environment.

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team that includes both designers and engineers. You’ll play a crucial role in a rapidly growing team on a new program, conducting engineering assessments to support the build process. Collaborate closely with the design team to develop equipment and provide operational and production support for safety-critical systems. Relocation support is available for all submarine roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
