_*Benson Healthcare is adding another Occupational Therapist to our growing team! We are seeking a Part time, OT to join us in the beautiful small town of Benson, AZ. Located only 45 miles from the City of Tucson, AZ. Competitive hourly rate and benefits.*_
*POSITION SUMMARY*
Occupational Therapists work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling. Occupational Therapists assist individuals to develop, recover or maintain daily living and work skills. The goal of an Occupational Therapist is not only to help clients improve basic motor functions and cognitive and emotional abilities to return to these roles but also to compensate for loss of function. The Occupational Therapist's goal is to help clients have independent, productive, and satisfying lives.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
1. Evaluate, plan, and implement Occupational Therapy treatment according to individual patient needs at all ages from infant to geriatric. Development of realistic measurable functional goals.
2. Provide ongoing assessment of patient response to OT treatment and patient progress; modify OT treatment as indicated.
3. Complete patient evaluations, progress reports, re-evaluations, treatment notes/billing, and discharge summaries to the referring physicians on a timely basis meeting third party payer requirements and Benson Hospital policies.
4. Ensure the patients have an appropriate HEP upon the evaluation or 1st visit after evaluation. The HEP needs to be documented in the flowsheet or in the objective portion of the patients therapy note for the treatment session. (If the patient is appropriate to receive an HEP).
5. Resolve patient complaints.
6. Have a basic understanding of the functions of all departments within the hospital and their relationship to the Occupational Therapy department and coordinate/communicate with other members of the treatment team regarding patient’s progress and response to treatment.
7. Consult and communicate with referring physicians as needed.
8. Provide supervision of COTA and rehabilitation tech.
9. Take responsibility for professional development and continuing education requirements to provide quality, efficient, effective Occupational Therapy treatment to patients with a variety of diverse needs.
10. Maintain professional standards of care and ethical treatment as determined by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
11. Follow personnel, safety and emergency policies and procedures as outlined by Benson Hospital.
12. Optimizes communication abilities and skills of patients in client facilities by performing the following activities:
a. Performing Functional Screens and or evaluations of acute patients.
b. Evaluating and treating all patients who could benefit from intervention as prescribed by a state approved referral source.
c. Appropriately documenting progress toward identified objectives.
d. Communicating patient status and needs to the patient, the patient’s family, staff, and other professionals involved in their care.
13. Build a strong rehabilitative care practice within each facility by performing the following activities:
a. Establishing and maintaining courteous and helpful interaction patterns with staff, patients and families that reflect sensitivity to individual needs and a problem-solving approach.
b. Actively integrating therapist’s role into facility team.
c. Educating staff, other health care professionals, and the general community about Occupational Therapy and hospital services on a consistent basis.
d. Attending inpatient rehab team meetings as appropriate.
e. Establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with other health care professionals and colleagues in the community.
f. Making appropriate referrals to other members of the rehabilitative team (ST, and PT, PTA).
g. Developing and implementing new programs/techniques to enhance Physical Therapy services.
h. Adhering to the requirements of the patient’s Bill of Rights.
i. Skill in selecting and providing a wide range of intervention strategies and monitoring their effectiveness.
* Ability to plan, coordinate and provide training and continuing education both formally and informally to parents/caregivers, patients, staff, and other medical professionals.
* Knowledge of current legal mandates, including Federal and State Law, compliance issues, confidentiality requirements, funding procedures and requirements.
*PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT *
1. Expanding and enhancing clinical expertise, professional and management skills through interaction with managers, therapists and other professional staff, self-study, and continuing education programs as approved.
2. Maintaining valid state license.
3. Obtaining membership and participating in professional and community organizations.
4. Maintaining an awareness of issues related to the profession of Occupational Therapy and the health care environment.
5. Provide clinical educational opportunities for students of Occupational Therapy.
*ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS*
1. Submitting billing and expense documentation in a timely manner.
2. Developing and implementing facility utilization goals and plans
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS*
1. Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.
2. Currently certified as an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.
3. Currently licensed to practice Occupational Therapy by the state of Arizona.
* CPR certification as per Benson Hospital Policy
* CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification or ability to become certified.
* Physical capabilities to fulfill job expectations.
*WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL DEMANDS*
* Ability to lift patients using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently throughout the course of an eight (8) hour day/shift; must be capable of easily lifting forty (40) pounds dead weight alone.
* Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during an eight (8) hour day/shift.
* Visual acuity (near and distant) sufficient to evaluate, diagnose and monitor patient needs and to maintain accurate records, recognize people and provide directions.
* Ability to hear and speak sufficiently to evaluate and diagnose patient needs, and to understand and give directions.
* Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility and in the community.
* Fine motor skills for handling diagnostic or therapeutic equipment and for documenting in electronic medical record.
* Work endurance ability to work eight (8) hour days/shifts with one-hour lunch break. Ability to participate in sustained activity for up to three and one-half (3.5) hours at a time.
