Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is seeking immediate assistance in identifying a candidate for a Mechanical Design Engineer direct hire position in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Responsibilities: Create and modify 2D and 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. Design and support custom-fabricated equipment, including conveyors, pallet line systems, ring mullers, rotary screens, mold handling systems, mold hoppers, sand preparation systems, storage bins, and shake-outs. Utilize and modify existing CAD library models rather than designing from scratch, adjusting dimensions and configurations to meet project specifications. Perform equipment rating calculations to validate system performance. Support custom fabrication projects for various manufacturing clients requiring specialized fabricated components. Collaborate with the fabrication shop and spend approximately 10-15% of time on the production floor to answer questions and support builds. Remain engaged throughout the project lifecycle, supporting design updates or modifications during fabrication. Contribute in a flexible, team-oriented environment where engineers may assist with a variety of operational needs as required. Required Skills & Qualifications:
Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) preferred. 5-10+ years of experience in a similar design or mechanical engineering role. Strong understanding of fabrication and custom fabrication environments, including structural steel and sheet metal design. Experience with large fabricated systems and equipment. Comfortable working on the shop floor and collaborating directly with fabrication teams.
TERMS:
This is a direct hire position that pays from $60,000 - $85,000/yr.
