*Senior Geotechnical Engineer*
*1. The Opportunity*
As an Engineering and Surveying Professional, Inc. (EAS) *Senior Geotechnical Engineer*, you will play a key role in assisting our clients to successfully execute their projects. You will work alongside EAS’s highly experienced engineers and surveyors to assist you with the responsibility for overseeing, managing, coordinating, senior reviewing and/or preparing and executing proposals and final work product. Competitive compensation ($90k-$150k+, commensurate with experience and regional market standards).
*2. Scope of Services – Senior Review, Train, Direct and Lead*
· Scoping and executing comprehensive geotechnical subsurface evaluations using SPT, CPT, SCPT, and other field test methods.
· Design of retaining walls/structures and engineered reinforced slopes.
· Slope stability analysis, earth stabilization evaluations, and stabilization designs.
· Shallow and deep foundation evaluations and designs.
· Site-specific seismic and liquefaction evaluations and remediation designs.
· Forensic evaluations of foundations, retaining walls, slopes, building slabs and pavements, and design of repairs.
· Evaluation of karst geology (sinkholes) and remediation designs.
· Geophysical testing, excavation/blasting recommendations, and preparation of top-of-rock surfaces.
*3. Responsibilities & Workflows3.1 Client & Team Coordination*
3.1 Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and internal EAS teams to align technical scope, schedule, and deliverables.
· Collaborate on scopes and recommendations with staff and other senior engineers.
3.2 Technical Production – Senior Review, Train, Direct, and Lead
· Preparation of proposals, reports, plans, and specifications for geotechnical and design tasks.
· Performance of calculations and designs using established engineering methods and software tools.
· Evaluation of laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports; ensure traceability of data to source logs and lab results.
· Preparation and senior review of reports, correspondence, designs, and specifications.
3.3 Field Operations - Senior Review, Train, Direct, and Lead
· Planning and directing subsurface explorations (SPT, CPT, Geoprobe) and geophysical investigations.
· Field staff in sampling, testing, data collection, and on-site documentation.
· Documentation of site conditions; interpretation of surveys, road maps, aerial/topographic/geologic maps; understand construction stakes and utility markings.
*4. Tools & Software*
· Geotechnical analysis software (slope stability, settlement, site specific seismic, liquefaction, bearing capacity, lateral pile analysis). (preferred working proficiency; training will be provided as needed for senior review functions).
· Geotechnical Design Software (slope stability, settlement and liquefaction remediation designs, retaining wall/retention structures design, Asphalt and concrete pavement design, shallow and deep foundation design, light pole design and vibration damping design. (preferred working proficiency; training will be provided as needed for senior review functions).
· AutoDesk Civil 3D (working proficiency preferred; training available for senior review functions).
· MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
*5. Deliverables & Quality Control*
· Project-specific geotechnical scope and methodology plan.
· Field exploration plan with boring/CPT/test locations and safety considerations.
· Lab testing matrix and chain-of-custody forms.
· Design calculations package with input assumptions, references, and output verification.
· Issued deliverables: proposals, draft/final geotechnical reports, and stamped plans/specifications as required.
· *QC/QA: senior technical review*, calculation checklists, and document control per EAS procedures.
*6. Health, Safety & Environment*
· Adhere to EAS safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
· Assess site hazards, weather, and access; implement JHAs and appropriate PPE.
· Accommodate physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent walking on uneven ground, carrying equipment, and working in various weather conditions.
*7. Qualifications*
· *BS in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering *(MS in Geotechnical preferred).
· *10+ years experience in geotechnical consulting *and project management.
· Strong analytical capability and proficiency with a range of geotechnical analyses.
· Working proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D (preferred) and competency with MS Office.
· Excellent verbal/written communication; strong organization and record-keeping.
· Strong work ethic, ability to adapt to changing conditions, and manage priorities.
*8. Travel & Work Conditions*
· Occasional field work and travel throughout the southern and northeastern U.S. (typically east of the Mississippi River).
· Ability to interpret surface features/landmarks and utility color markings; basic construction competencies.
