Job Description
: Systems is expanding our expertise to provide exciting and challenging solutions to our customers. Our spacecraft solutions team works in a fast paced, highly collaborative development environment to provide continuously evolving capabilities in space payloads and bus power products. As electrical engineering lead, you will manage a team of electrical engineers through the program life cycle to develop electronic products for various complex, high precision, and high reliability applications.
What You'll Do Provide technical leadership for a multidisciplinary system team (optical, mechanical, focal plane, power, thermal, RF, software) including suppliers to create, influence and define discriminating electronics solutions involving electro-optical imaging, mechanisms, thermal conditioning, payload control, mission data processing and power including DC-DC converter designs and products for power distribution. Provide subject matter expertise in space-based electronics systems and components to include focal plane interface electronics, power electronics and power conversion, single board computers, high precision thermal control including cryo systems, and FPGA based controllers. Lead resolution of electrical hardware anomalies at the system level and determine root cause and corrective action at the engineering development level and with flight hardware. Compose objective, quantifiable trade studies incorporating heritage system designs as well as new technologies and supplier capabilities to guide critical architectural decisions affecting the performance of other systems and subsystems. Electrical system-level modeling and simulation, analysis, trades, risk assessment, requirements derivation, allocation, and flow down leveraging, DOORs, MBSE, and various other system engineering tools. Maintain end-to-end electrical compatibility, functional allocations, and margins across entire system Hands-on involvement in every aspect of design, development, production, and test. Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design phase. Present analysis, findings, and design to peers, internal management, and customers throughout program phases (Proposal, IBR, SRR, PDR, CDR, IV&V). Mentor junior engineers in mission understanding, electrical subsystem technologies and concepts. Develop electronics to quality and reliability standards for NASA, NOAA, DoD, and classified customers. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. Perform other duties as necessary.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions. Travel and local commute between System campuses and other possible non-BAE System locations may be required.
Required Skill Set : BS or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience. Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Technical competence in all of the following areas: ROIC photodetector arrays, motor drives including 3 phase, voice coils and steppers along with associated feedback including resolvers and encoders, general analog circuitry for thermal control, telemetry gathering and transistor biasing, FPGA closed loop control, DC-DC conversion and power distribution and harnessing along with strong grounding knowledge and EMI background Robust problem solving, decision making (related to cost, schedule, technical and risk), and closure skills (dedication to close open items/issues) to ensure mission success Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate complex concepts to widely varying audiences. Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive change Working knowledge of interface and design documentation, such as functional block diagrams, PCB design, layout, and fabrication documentation skills Experience through the entire system lifecycle from concept, design, production, integration, test, launch, to operation support. Detailed design experience in analog circuit, digital circuits, FPGA, PCB Layout, and electronics packaging.
Desired Skills Set : Experience in creating and delivering aerospace electronics systems and subsystems Experience in creating and delivering space-based electronics systems and subsystems Analytical experience with TOR-level design standards including WCA and Part Stress.
Education Qualification : Education typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor)
