Under the supervision of central Benefits Design & Management, performs a variety of day-to-day benefits eligibility interpretations, enrollment processes and administrative Human Resource Information System (HRIS) Benefits functions, ensuring compliance, data integrity and the processing of HR benefits data. Handles routine transactions by interpreting guidelines, procedures, policies, and practices and by applying HRIS Benefits processes. Makes recommendations by determining the approach or action to take for problems or non-routine issues. Actively participates as a member of a benefits, retirement, and Workers' Compensation data management team to provide interpretations of eligibility rules, guidance on enrollment processes and HRIS Ben Admin system processing, to ensure data integrity. Administers benefits and retirement eligibility and enrollment processes in compliance with state and federal legislation, plan provisions and policies, and internal ASU practices. Maintains knowledge of current and new regulations, provisions, and practices to ensure consistency and accuracy with established guidelines. Assists faculty, staff, and departmental representatives to ensure timely and accurate benefits and retirement eligibility and enrollment. Provides support, as needed, to ensure faculty and staff complete the enrollment or change process accurately and with the proper supporting documentation. Responds verbally or in writing to inquiries, complaints or problems, providing information requiring comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations, university procedures, plan policies, and associated information guides. Researches questions regarding leave accruals, retirement contributions, benefits deductions, pre-collected benefits, and other payroll-related issues/problems/concerns. Manage and track Workers' Compensation cases, including documentation, follow-up, and timely claim submissions to the state. Maintain OSHA 300 logs and ensure regulatory compliance. Facilitates meetings in collaboration with EHS and Safety partners. Supports employees and departments throughout the Workers' Compensation process. Updates electronic benefits records for staff, faculty, and student workers to reflect approved changes; ensures system accuracy in accordance with established bi-weekly pay period deadlines. Runs delivered and customized system processes as it relates to the HRIS Benefits Administration module. Confirms accuracy and integrity of all data entered; peer-reviews others' work; identifies errors and issues to internal Benefits System personnel and leadership for further analysis to prevent future occurrences as needed. Provides assistance for complex data management and payroll-related problems and issues as directed; works collaboratively with central HR, Financial Services, and Payroll resources for timely resolution. Responds to ad hoc benefits data requests. Participates in special projects with staff as directed. Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or in closely-related field AND one (1) year in benefits administration with payroll coordination plus experience in procedural, management or systems analysis work; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved Knowledge of all applicable federal, state and regulatory requirements, laws and standards pertaining to benefits, retirement, and Workers' Compensation practices and procedures. Knowledge of quality customer service standards, methods and practices. Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and standards of benefits, retirement and Workers' Compensation administration. Knowledge of human resource information systems (HRIS) Knowledge of database maintenance basic concepts Skill in performing accurate data entry Skill in both verbal and written communication Skill in problem solving, critical thinking and decision making Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships both within and across organizational areas. Skill in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities Ability to demonstrate close attention to detail Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities, sensitive/confidential information and short deadlines. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (25%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
