Description
Purpose of Position:
The Analytics Manager is responsible for developing and maturing Sportsman’s enterprise analytics and data science capabilities. This role leads the transition from descriptive and diagnostic reporting toward predictive and prescriptive analytics, enabling data-driven decision-making across Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, and E-commerce.
This is a hands-on leadership role that blends advanced analytics execution, team development, and strategic business partnership. The manager establishes analytical standards, builds scalable and reproducible workflows, and ensures insights are actionable, interpretable, and aligned with business objectives. The role plays a key leadership role in shaping analytics strategy, capability roadmap, budget planning, and hiring decisions within its domain.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Define and evolve the analytics roadmap aligned to Sportsman’s business strategy and analytics maturity goals.
· Establish standards for analytical methods, data science workflows, documentation, and reproducibility. Review analytical work for quality, accuracy, and clarity.
· Identify opportunities to introduce predictive, prescriptive, and advanced analytics use cases.
· Lead and execute complex analyses, including customer behavior, assortment optimization, pricing, promotions, demand forecasting, and operational efficiency.
· Drive measurable business outcomes including revenue lift, margin optimization, customer retention, and inventory efficiency.
· Develop statistical models and machine learning solutions where appropriate (forecasting, segmentation, propensity, optimization).
· Translate business problems into analytical approaches and clearly communicate insights to non-technical stakeholders.
· Manage a small team of data analysts, providing coaching on analytics techniques, storytelling, and business context.
· Help define career paths, skill development plans, and future analytics roles as the team grows.
· Act as a trusted analytics partner to business leaders, helping shape questions and decisions with data.
· Collaborate closely with BI Engineering, Data Engineering, and Data Platform teams to ensure data readiness and scalability.
· Promote a “data as a product” mindset across analytics deliverables.
· Champion data quality, appropriate use of AI/ML, and ethical analytics practices.
· Ensure analytical outputs are interpretable, explainable, and aligned with business risk tolerance.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
· 8+ years of experience in analytics, data science, or applied statistics roles.
· 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring, or managing analysts.
· Strong foundation in statistics, experimentation, and analytical problem-solving.
· Hands-on experience with SQL and at least one analytics or data science language (Python or R).
· Experience working with modern BI tools and semantic models (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Sigma).
· Proven ability to translate analytical insights into business recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Retail, omnichannel, or consumer-facing analytics experience.
· Experience with cloud data platforms and modern analytics stacks.
· Exposure to machine learning workflows in production or near-production environments.
· Familiarity with customer analytics, loyalty programs, and merchandising analytics.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field required.
· Master’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field preferred.
· Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Directly manages and/or mentors a team of data analysts.
· Responsible for hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and professional development planning.
· Reviews and ensures quality, accuracy, and clarity of analytical deliverables.
· Supports workforce planning and provides input into future analytics hiring needs.
· Fosters a collaborative, high-quality analytics culture aligned with enterprise standards.

· The employee may be required to exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity at 20 inches or less due to computer work
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee will experience a moderate noise level (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)
