Über
Based out of your home office in Calgary or Burnaby, you'll join our wetlands team to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting efforts of privately owned infrastructure projects. You will have the opportunity to support projects through field data collection efforts and assist with the development of technical reports and regulatory applications, as well as field planning and coordination, field data collection, and data management. This position will start in the spring with an anticipated 50% of travel for fieldwork and 50% office work. A successful offer will be full-time or a 12-month contract depending on workload and/or skill set. Contracts have the potential for extension or conversion to full-time. * B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, related to ecology, hydrology, wetlands, botany, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
* Hold or be eligible for P.Biol. designation. Biologist in Training may be considered.
* At least 2-5 years of relevant field lead experience in environmental consulting or equivalent.
* Proven field skills as a Crew Lead and willingness to work in the field in remote locations for extended periods of time if required.
* Proficiency in satellite and aerial imagery interpretation, classification, and delineation of wetlands.
* Strong skills in identification of wetland vegetation, hydrological indicators, and hydric soils.
* Experience using the ArcGIS platform in the desktop (ArcGIS Pro), web browser, and mobile (Field Maps and Survey123) environments. Experience viewing and/or collecting field data using a mobile app (ex: Esri Field Maps or Survey 123).
* A driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.
Ideally, you'll also have:
* Experience or interest in supporting other biophysical study areas such as reclamation, vegetation, wildlife, soils, and/or fisheries field assessments.
* Experience classifying and delineating wetlands in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and/or British Columbia.
* Experience with remote sensing data interpretation.
