Analytics Engineer
The Analytics Engineer plays a pivotal role in shaping ESFM's modern data platform and enabling the business to make better, faster, and more trusted decisions. This role is responsible for designing and maintaining scalable data models in Snowflake, developing robust ELT pipelines with dbt, and enabling consistent analytics across Power BI and Google Looker. By applying dimensional modeling principles and engineering best practices, the Analytics Engineer will translate business needs into reliable, reusable, and performant data products. This position sits at the intersection of data engineering and business intelligence, ensuring stakeholders have access to clean, governed, and analytics-ready data for self-service insights. Core Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Transformation Design and maintain dbt models that transform raw data into trusted, analytics-ready datasets. Apply dimensional modeling (Kimball) to build optimized star schemas for reporting and self-service analytics. Implement testing frameworks (dbt tests, unit tests) to ensure data quality and reliability. Data Integration & ELT Develop and manage automated ELT pipelines in dbt and Snowflake. Integrate new data sources (e.g., ServiceNow, SaaS platforms) and collaborate with data engineers to optimize workflows and orchestration. Analytics Enablement Build and maintain semantic layers in Power BI and Looker (LookML) for consistent KPIs and definitions. Align data models with business objectives and optimize for performance and ease of use. Engineering Best Practices Use Git/GitHub for version control and CI/CD tools (e.g., dbt Cloud, GitHub Actions) for safe, automated deployments. Monitor and optimize Snowflake performance, ensuring scalability and cost efficiency. Apply observability practices (logging, query monitoring) to proactively detect and resolve issues. Collaboration & Governance Partner with analysts, data scientists, and business teams to deliver actionable insights. Communicate technical concepts clearly and promote data governance, documentation, and best practices. Maintain security, access controls, and documentation across data models, pipelines, and BI platforms. Continuous Improvement Stay current with modern data stack tools and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and scalability. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience. 3+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related role. Hands-on expertise designing star schemas, fact tables, and conformed dimensions following Kimball best practices Proven hands-on experience with dbt for ELT pipeline development. Strong proficiency with Snowflake, including query optimization and performance tuning. Demonstrated application of Kimball dimensional modeling and star schema design. Experience designing semantic models in Power BI and/or Looker (LookML preferred). Advanced SQL skills with large, complex datasets. Proficiency with Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative workflows. Experience managing multi-environment workflows (dev ? staging ? prod). Knowledge of data observability, governance, and role-based access security. Certifications or equivalent practical expertise with Snowflake, Google Looker, Power BI, and dbt tools. Excellent communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders. Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail. Preferred / Bonus Skills: Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for dbt or data engineering workflows. Exposure to Python for scripting, automation, or data integration. Familiarity with ServiceNow data structures or other enterprise SaaS systems. Knowledge of data quality frameworks (e.g., Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, Soda).
