The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting Baker's enterprise and job-site network infrastructure. The primary focus of this role is to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable network connectivity across approximately 70 offices and more than 200 active job sites. S/he works closely with Infrastructure & Operations, Cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to support operational continuity, standardize network deployments, and enhance network security and performance. The Network Engineer plays a critical role in supporting new office and job-site deployments, managing connectivity solutions, and ensuring network services align with business objectives. The Network Engineer will perform the following duties in a safe, productive, and effective manner: Network Engineering & Operations Designs, implements, manages, and supports enterprise and job-site network infrastructure Configures and maintains routing, switching, firewall policies, VLANs, and network segmentation Troubleshoots and resolves complex network and connectivity issues Monitors network performance, availability, and security New Office and Job-Site Deployments Gathers and validates network requirements for new offices and job sites Develops Bills of Materials (BoMs) for required network and connectivity equipment Designs subnetting, VLANs, routing, firewall rules, and security policies Deploys and validates network infrastructure, including on-site support when required Coordinates with cabling contractors to ensure proper physical infrastructures Provides clear and consistent communication to stakeholders regarding progress, risks, and timelines Fortinet Platform Management Configures and manages FortiGate firewalls, including security policies, IPS, SD-WAN, and VPNs Administers FortiManager for centralized policy management and standardization Utilizes FortiAnalyzer for logging, monitoring, and security analysis Deploys and supports FortiSwitch and FortiAP solutions Implements and supports Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) strategies Connectivity and ISP Management Manages relationships with Internet Service Providers (ISPs), including performance monitoring and issue escalation Coordinates connectivity solutions and redundancy strategies across offices and job sites Implements and supports Starlink, Cradlepoint, and 4G/5G/LTE connectivity for remote locations Cloud and Security Collaboration Supports secure network integration with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based services Collaborates with cybersecurity teams to align network architecture with security standards and frameworks Supports compliance with industry best practices such as NIST and CIS as applicable to network operations Documentation and Continuous Improvement Maintains accurate network documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures Identifies opportunities to improve network reliability, security, and cost efficiency Stays current with networking and security technologies to support continuous improvement The following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and business partners Strong customer service orientation with the ability to manage stakeholder expectations Strong analytical, evaluative, and troubleshooting skills with keen attention to detail Ability to explain complex networking and security concepts in clear, non-technical terms Ability to use basic math, geometry, and algebra. Ability to develop Bills of Materials (BoMs) and perform cost and connectivity evaluations for network solutions Ability to demonstrate a positive team attitude and a desire to always help.
