Industrial Design Engineer (Sylvan R. Schemitz Designs LLC d/b/a The Lighting Quotient, West Haven, CT): Ideating conceptual drawings that serve as proposals and visual representations of future products within the framework of the new product development process; Developing detailed design drawings derived from the initial conceptual phase, providing a more comprehensive glimpse into the actual physical product being proposed; Perform Finite Element Analysis to ensure durability and performance; Designing, developing and testing optical systems including lenses, reflectors, and other devices by performing simulations, analyses, and prototyping to validate design concepts; Creating and refining machining drawings to perfect the technical blueprints of our machinery; Drafting manufacturing drawings to clearly communicate design specifications to all parties involved in the manufacturing process of our current products, as well as those still in development; Manufacturing installation drawings that clearly demonstrate how our products and their electrical components should be positioned so that the product performs as intended; Producing service drawings that describe the location of control devices within a control system to ensure that our lighting systems are ultimately installed correctly; Designing wiring diagrams that provide an accurate representation of the electrical components relevant to a respective product, showing how components are connected within a circuit, including the layout of wires and their respective connections between different devices; Creating and maintaining bills of materials for assigned design projects, including price lists and electronic configurations; Defining product family configurator segments and options with price adders, while creating visual rules, pricing details, and installation instructions for both consumers and installation professionals; Developing and maintaining technical documentation such as catalog pages, sell sheets, data sheets, scaled performance tables, and 2D CAD files for the company website; Performing First Article Inspections on optics, brackets, wiring harnesses, and aluminum castings, including creating balloon drawings and summary report for inspection; Supporting quality and compliance team by ensuring all documentation meets company and regulatory standards; and Providing weekly project status updates and present KPIs to management. In order to complete the above-mentioned tasks, the following skills and experience are required: SolidWorks (3D CAD, 2D Drawings, PDM); AutoCAD (2D); Wiring Harness Schematics & Design; Optical Design & Ray Tracing; PCB Assembly (PCBA); Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing, CNC); 3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering; 3D Product Rendering; LED Lighting Design; APQP; DFMEA / PFMEA; Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis; GD&T; FEA (Structural & Thermal); CFD; Plastic Injection Molding; Die Casting; Extrusion; Sheet Metal Design; DVP&R; BoM Management (PLM); Engineering Change Orders (ECO); DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly); First Article Inspection (FAI); Microsoft Office Suite; New Product Development (NPD); Product Testing & Validation (Thermal testing, Photometric Analysis); Root Cause Analysis (FMEA, 5why); Cross-Functional Team Mentoring; Project Management; Production & Assembly Support (Manufacturing Issue Resolution, Process Improvement); Troubleshooting; Installation Documentation; Resource Planning; Manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, casting, extrusion, and additive manufacturing; Electromechanical integration and working with power supplies, drivers, or control systems and PCBA; PLM and ERP systems for BOM management, change control, and part lifecycle tracking; New product development processes, including ideation, design and testing; and Maintaining technical documentation and quality inspection. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and at least five years of experience as a Design Engineer or related occupation in the lighting industry.
