Border Protection Officer

Protecting America's borders requires a unique blend of skills and qualities. Here are some key characteristics that make border patrol agents successful:

• Detect suspicious activity and question individuals who may be violating immigration laws.
• Prevent undocumented noncitizens from crossing the border, either by air, land, or sea.

1. Familiarity with local laws and regulations related to immigration enforcement.
2. Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading comprehension) while occasionally working with translators when interacting with foreign nationals for brief communications over two-way radios while physically challenging situations occur at or near the U.S.-Mexico international boundaries (between an area within 100 miles of any external U.S. boundary).
