Salary: Up to £57,500

What You’ll Be Doing

As a key player in our innovative team, you will:

  • Lead the development of functional requirements and supporting V&V evidence for secondary structures, ensuring robust design justification documentation.
  • Oversee the spatial design and drawing outputs for secondary structures, adhering to process instructions and standard design guidance.
  • Follow internal procedures and develop evidence of compliance through detailed calculations and reports.
  • Undertake structural calculations and engage in peer review checking and approval activities.
  • Lead and support the identification and rapid resolution of issues throughout all product lifecycle stages.
  • Ensure that appropriate engineering guidance is implemented for efficient calculations, fostering a “right first time” mindset.
  • Drive technical development and research activities, collaborating with industrial partners and external customers as needed.
Your Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in undertaking structural calculations.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of structural mechanics and dynamics.
  • Experience in developing structural requirements and V&V evidence.
  • Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Software.
  • Ability to present technical arguments clearly and simply.
  • Previous experience in checking and approving work.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Abaqus FEA and Simcenter, or a willingness to learn.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or on the path to becoming Chartered).
  • Experience in generating toolset/calculation templates.

The Secondary Structures Department

Join our newly established Secondary Structures Department, a dynamic team at the forefront of submarine structural engineering. In this role, you will:

  • Support structural requirements and conduct complex simulations of internal submarine structures.
  • Help safeguard essential equipment against naval shock events and various load conditions, ensuring optimal performance and durability.

Collaboration is key in our team, as we provide structural design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders during crucial design reviews. We also offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
