Job Summary

  • Wellstar Cobb in Austell, Georgia is seeking a FT Night Lead Registered Radiology Technologist .
  • The days and hours for the position are Monday - Friday from 10:00pm - 6:30am ; this position will receive a specialty differential as well as night shift differential.
  • The Registered Radiology Technologist must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
  • Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.
  • Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams per department procedures.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
  • Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative.
  • Able to independently perform job functions.
  • Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for procedures.
  • Functions as lead technologist.
  • Reviews images for quality and completeness.
  • Provides constructive feedback on staff image quality.
  • Provides functional oversight of the department in the absence of the Chief Tech.
  • Provides feedback to the Chief Tech and/or Manager regarding staff image quality and patient interaction.
  • Functions as a shift leader in radiology.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Patient Care
  • Obtains complete clinical history, examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias safely.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and correct right/left marker usage.
  • Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations; maintains and restocks crash cart and life support equipment.
  • Assists technologists across modalities when needed.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates the need for physician intervention.
  • Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order before performing procedures.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort.
  • Demonstrates competence in appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to complete required activities.
  • Follows physicians' instructions during procedures.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Asks clarifying questions and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time-Out processes.
  • Demonstrates and understands pre- and post-procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for procedures.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture when applicable.
Equipment
  • Adjusts technique to ensure lowest possible radiation dose while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control standards.
  • Operates all system components.
  • Operates all radiographic equipment safely and competently; ensures equipment is not abused and remains fully functional.
Education and Communication
  • Clearly explains purpose and nature of exams using AIDET to minimize anxiety and encourage cooperation.
  • Ensures all patient concerns or contraindications are addressed before procedures; notifies physician when necessary.
  • Participates in orientation and training of department employees.
  • Provides preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
  • Documentation is concise, legible and precise.
  • Reads daily email and completes assigned tasks.
  • Completes all mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education.
Quality Control
  • Produces high-quality images including proper collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
  • Ensures equipment is fully operational by checking calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Sends all studies to PACS and prints CDs as needed.
  • Completes exams in RIS with accurate orientation, marking, labeling and documentation.
  • Prints and scans teleradiography studies when applicable.
  • Loads and properly labels prior exams before sending to PACS.
Operations
  • Restocks linens and maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports and positions patients; assists on and off procedure tables.
  • Performs patient charging activities on service date.
  • Applies shielding and supportive/immobilization devices.
  • Shares knowledge and assistance willingly and proactively.
  • Performs clerical and support duties as needed to maintain service continuity.
  • Keeps supervisor informed and reports potential issues promptly.
  • Maintains productivity equal to coworkers.
  • Meets Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
  • Transfers and retrieves images on PACS.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar policies, standards of work and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology - Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated)

  • ARRT-R Radiography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association - Required
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum 3 years as an R.T. - Required
