ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)
The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T'exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION
The Education Coordinator is responsible for providing services to elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education (PSE) school students, to assist them with successful completion and assistance in school. The Education Coordinator works from the responsibilities as laid out in the local education agreements. Provides professional career planning from K4 to post-secondary with a variety of clients within WLFN utilizing a case management approach and following the framework agreement. The coordinator will work with students to develop an employment action plan with a goal of achieving a long-term attachment to the labour market. Provide one-on-one interaction with each WLFN member to assist in exploring personal interests and how it can connect to a career.
Employment Type
Full time, 35 hours per week (8:30am-4:30pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch)
Probation Period
3 months from the date of hire.
Education Required
- Minimum Undergraduate degree in related field (i.e. Social Work, Social Sciences, Administration, Education).
- Preference to someone that has experience in post-secondary education.
Experience Required
- Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in a closely related field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Career Planning and Support
- Provides career counselling to a variety of members including youth, and young adults, with focus on being early enough to set a career path. Assist members to gather education and employment history.
- Assists members with the development of an employment action plan to obtain a long-term attachment to the labour market.
- Receives client referrals and refers clients to community agencies for services, programs, and
- Updates a variety of computer databases with client
- Liaises and networks with community partners, businesses, and various government
- Completes assessments on clients to gather education and employment
- Participates with Universities, Colleges and School Districts in the deliberations and development of existing or new post-secondary programs.
- Participates in discussions to include the opportunity of post secondary certificate one year course programs within Secondary Education.
- Aids in career development and with partnership development.
- Monitors budgets related to client involvement in career programs and specific program budgets, as well as ongoing client paths and tracks progress through regular touch points.
- Survey Development.
School Support Functions
- Ensures school visits on a regular basis and maintains contact with the student, parent(s), teacher(s), and Principal(s), institutes.
- Ensures students foster positive relationships with their teachers, families, and peers.
- Ensures important information is relayed to parents regarding the student to and from the home and school (e.g., grades, attendance, additional support needs)
- Maintains the log in and uses the SD #27 MyEd program to review all the WLFN Nominal Roll students' academic program and attendance.
- Participates in school activities where appropriate.
- Ensures that the student is engaged and progressing at school and takes appropriate action to encourage improvements.
- Maintains records of all students for their academic career and other pertinent information required.
- Utilizes outside agencies where appropriate to assist with students' success.
- Coordinates post-secondary student programs including reviewing applications for consideration, creating sponsorship and follow-up letters.
- Creates and administers celebration/recognition activities for the students.
- Participation on the First Nation Education Council (SD#27) as a member on behalf of the Williams Lake First Nation.
- Ensure all WLFN administration documents for K-12 and PSE student records are upheld and completed by deadlines for Nominal Roll and PSE reporting including F197 Waiver Forms, monthly allowances, incentives for program delivery etc.
- Responsible for participating in negotiations and maintaining the 3-year Local Education Agreement with SD #27 and 5-year independent and First Nation schools.
Human Resources and Administration
- Works with Human Resources (HR) for the recruitment, orientation, performance review and development of direct reports.
- Schedules staff for daily, weekly, and monthly routines, provides training and helps troubleshoot difficult tasks or issues.
- Ensures employee compliance with WLFN policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and leads staff meetings, sets the agenda, provides minutes and clearly communicates WLFN information to all staff.
- Keeps the Director of Education informed of sensitive and important issues and events.
- Ensures there is a system of checks and balances for the maintenance of accurate and confidential files and records; complies with reporting requirements.
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
- Contributes to the WLFN's ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Williams Lake First Nation community, traditions, teachings, culture, protocols, and practices.
- Career and employment counselling tools and techniques.
- Proficient use of information technologies (computers, mobile devices, etc.) including Microsoft Office Suite, presentation development tools, online education programs, and social media channels.
- Experience with post secondary education is preferred.
- Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems and make decisions.
- Ability to take directions and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coach and mentor and guide clients regarding their job search and interview process.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and organize work effectively and under pressure.
- Strong research, counseling, networking, and presentation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of technical documentation and best practices.
