Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Quality Assurance; this position supports Porter Airlines' Maintenance Quality Assurance (MQA) audit team in the daily conduct and continuous improvement of auditing activities within the Maintenance Quality Assurance Program (MQAP) established under Porter Airlines' AMO / AOC / ATO certificates. This position also supports Porter Airlines' safety culture by participating in core functions related to the internal Safety Management System (SMS).
Duties & ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities
- Acting Delegate: When necessary, act as delegate of the Manager, Maintenance Quality Assurance (during their planned or unplanned absence); requires liaison with internal/external department heads to ensure functional continuity of the MQAP.
- Daily Support of the MQAP: Liaison with the Manager, Maintenance Quality Assurance, all MQA audit team members, and key audit stakeholders (internal and external), to ensure regulatory compliance and efficiency of the MQAP.
- Internal Audit Planning: Engage in and oversee the planning and conduct of all internal audits encompassing all functions and elements necessary to confirm compliance with applicable regulations and approved manuals. Communicate Audit Schedule changes and extensions to the Manager, Maintenance Quality Assurance.
- External Audit Planning: Engage in and oversee the planning and conduct of all external audits of contracted organizations including but not limited to maintenance arrangements, manufacturers, suppliers, and overhaul/repair facilities, etc. Communicate Audit Schedule changes and extensions to the Manager, Maintenance Quality Assurance.
- Oversight of Audit Checklists: Review and approve the design and development of detailed audit checklists encompassing all applicable functions and elements under Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Porter Airlines' approved company manuals, including any applicable functions related to contracted external organizations.
- Oversight of IOSA Conformance: Ensure all checklists are in conformance with any applicable IOSA Standards and Recommended Practices (ISARPs).
- Oversight of Audit Conduct & Output: Engage with audit teams during audit conduct providing guidance where necessary and/or providing on-site SME support in key areas such as evaluations of facilities requirements, tooling/equipment control, materials handling and control, maintenance practices, technical records, personnel training, etc. Review and evaluate all audit outputs to ensure fair and accurate representations of audit findings resulting in clear and actionable audit reports. Guide Auditor/s when necessary to improve logistics handling, stakeholder communications, audit evidence processing and audit output / reporting / corrective action tracking, audit closing etc.
- Audit Findings Trend Analysis: Regularly review, compile, document and track trend analysis data for all MQAP audit findings.
- Audit Follow-up / Closure: Review and/or recommend corrective action plans (CAPs), audit sample dispositions, and process improvements. Ensure audit progress is conducted in a timely fashion, including follow-ups for corrective action effectiveness, and to final audit closure.
- Corporate Policy Compliance: Adhere to all applicable processes and procedures specified in Porter's Corporate Operations Manual, MPM, MCM, SMS Manual and Audit Manual.
- Inter-Departmental Teamwork: Engage in MQA's regular team meetings, MQAP Workshop meetings and Quarterly "All Teams" meetings. Engage in various inter-departmental team meetings as may be required.
- SMS Investigations: Conduct SMS investigations including root cause analysis and the development of corrective action plans (after SMS Investigator training has been provided internally).
- SMS General Participation: Actively participate in Porter's Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations and/or resulting from the MQAP; understand, comply with, and promote the Company Safety Policy.
- Other: Occasional tasks assigned.

- 3+ years of aviation and QA experience, with applicable training certification/s while working within in an AMO or AOC or MRO environment.
- Experience in leading / supervising an audit team or a team conducting detailed engineering inspections is a key asset.
- Post-secondary education in an aviation related field, or equivalent education / experience is a key asset.
- Recognized and current Internal Auditor training (such as ISO 9001) is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain necessary airport security clearance is required.
- Must maintain a valid passport (plus any necessary long-term visa for USA) and be able to travel to various locations worldwide when required.
- Knowledge of TCCA's Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) is required.
- Knowledge of FAA's Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) is required.
- Knowledge/experience in IOSA auditing principles and ISARPs is required.
- Knowledge/experience in IOSA auditing principles and ISARPs is required.
- Knowledge/experience in AMOS (maintenance management software) is a key asset.
- Familiarity with various Technical Data sources (AMM, AIPC, CMM, MTCM) is a key asset.
- Impartiality, integrity, tenacity, diplomacy and self-reliance are key attributes for this role.
- Excellence in time management, written and verbal communication skills, keen attention to detail.
