At UBC, we believe that attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce is key to the successful pursuit of excellence in research, innovation, and learning for all faculty, staff and students. Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.

Job Summary

The Research Coordinator provides complex technical and administrative support to two CIHR-funded research programs: the ActionADE research program and the Canadian Emergency Department Research Network (CEDRN). The role supports qualitative and quantitative research activities, stakeholder engagement, and network-wide communications.

The position is responsible for coordinating research documentation, supporting ethics and grant submissions, conducting qualitative analyses under supervision, managing day-to-day program operations, and leading communications and knowledge translation activities. The Research Coordinator plans and schedules assigned work independently under general supervision and reports to the Principal Investigator (PI).

Organizational Status

ActionADE and CEDRN are CIHR-funded research programs led by Dr. Corinne Hohl at UBC. CEDRN is a pan-Canadian emergency medicine research network that supports multi-centre research, quality improvement, and surveillance initiatives across more than 60 emergency department sites nationwide. The network fosters collaboration, accelerates research and innovation, and supports inclusive participation to improve patient outcomes and inform healthcare policy and operations.

ActionADE is a health information technology initiative focused on improving documentation and communication of adverse drug events (ADEs). Implemented in hospitals within Vancouver Coastal Health, the program evaluates the impact of electronic ADE communication across care settings using a randomized controlled trial design, alongside qualitative implementation evaluations. The Research Coordinator works under general supervision, receiving direction on new assignments and complex issues while independently organizing and prioritizing ongoing work.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

The Research Coordinator is required to participate in and conduct all work-related activities in an ethical manner and to maintain strict confidentiality where required. Exercising poor judgment and lack of appropriate consultation with other team members can adversely affect the viability and validity of any research project and the research program as a whole. This could compromise the Department's ability to secure funding for future projects, or to engage in multi stakeholder projects in the future. Exercising poor judgment and lack of appropriate consultation may risk a multi-million dollar investment by CIHR, the Ministry of Health and Vancouver Coastal Health.
