MacEwan University's Sport and Wellness department is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Camp Leader for a casual appointment this summer. In this role, you will be the on-site leader of MacEwan's day camps and will coordinate registrations, participants' drop-off and pick-up, camp activities and staff breaks. You will also assist the Programmer and Supervisors with other camp related tasks, like evaluating the program and completing a comprehensive end-of-summer report.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating camp delivery and staff;
Attending to children's needs;
Protecting children's health and safety;
Participating in play;
Leading training sessions;
Assisting the Programmer and Supervisors with mentorship and competency development of Camp Coordinators and Counsellors;
Developing camp schedules and daily activities; and
Completing facility usage requests.

You will have:
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to remain adaptable and work both within a team and independently;
Leadership and delegation skills;
A high degree of comfort and confidence in the water;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and
The ability to articulate and model professional childcare practices, comfortably relate to children of all ages and demonstrate high physical and mental stamina.
Qualifications
Certified in Intermediate First Aid, or willingness to obtain the certification before staff training.
Experience in aquatics and leading sport and recreational activities.
Experience working with children and youth, with camp delivery experience being an asset.
Experience leading a team.
Certification in Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, NCCP coaching or other related certifications is considered an asset.
Coaching or instructional experience is considered an asset.
Experience with the Family Centre for Sport and Wellness, as a facility patron, program participant, volunteer, or staff, is considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
18 years of age or older.
Must be a student enrolled in secondary or post-secondary institution.
The ability to attend training sessions in May and June.
Availability to work 7 to 8 hours daily, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from late June through to August, up to 40 hours per week.
The ability to stay in the water at our swimming facility for extended periods, carry and lift supplies, and remain attentive in noisy, disruptive, hot and cold conditions both indoors and outdoors.
The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
