Skills
The District of West Vancouver Community Services Department has openings for casual Program Leaders – Youth Leadership. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Program Coordinator, the Program Leader will assist with the provision and supervision of a variety of leadership, life skills, and community engagement programs for preteens and youth in grades 6 to 12 in our Community Services facilities at various times over the year. The Program Leader will be responsible for:
setting up and cleaning up of materials, supplies, and room layouts before and after each session;
facilitating icebreakers, group activities, and skill building exercises;
offering encouragement, coaching, and constructive feedback during activities and adapting activities, as needed, to meet the needs of the group;
modeling positive behavior and conflict resolution strategies while actively monitoring group dynamics to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants;
assisting with program logistics and administration including taking attendance, monitoring supplies, and gathering feedback from participants;
monitoring and reporting on facility and equipment safety and security and maintenance requirements;
enforcing the rules and regulations of programs and facilities;
working collaboratively with all Youth Services staff and attending staff meetings and in-services; and,
performing other related work, as required.
The preferred candidates will have completion of Grade 12 plus related lived, professional and/or volunteer experience to demonstrate required skills, or an equivalent combination of training and experience plus current Emergency First Aid (or better) and CPR 'C' and AED certifications.
The successful candidates will have: experience leading/supervising youth (11 to 18 years old) in various activities while providing a fun and safe environment; ability to demonstrate knowledge of the issues, needs and concerns of youth and their psychosocial development; ability to demonstrate ethics and professional boundaries in working with youth; ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting; excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.

$21 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits.
