About the Role
We are a boutique private equity firm seeking an Interim Controller to provide coverage during a parental leave. The Controller will fully own the firm's accounting function for its SPVs and act as the primary accounting decision-maker during the engagement.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable operating in a lean environment, supervising junior staff, exercising accounting judgement, and working closely with existing team and external advisors.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Reporting
Own the general ledger and accounting records for Canadian Shield Capital and all SPVs
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Prepare and sign off on distributions, expense allocations and management fees, waterfalls and LP allocations, forecasts
Review all internal expense reports and invoices
Make online bill payments, wires, e-transfers, and tax payments
Managing entity bank accounts
Oversee monthly, semi-annual, and year-end financial statements
Ensure financial reporting is accurate and timely
Respond to accounting and tax-related internal or LP inquiries as needed
Tax Compliance
Prepare or oversee preparation of SPV tax filings (e.g., HST, T4, T5013 and related schedules)
Coordinate with internal and external tax advisors on more complex tax matters
Review tax returns for consistency with financial records
Manage tax filings, elections, and payment deadlines
People and Process
Supervise and review work prepared by a junior accountant
Provide day-to-day guidance and mentoring
Improve documentation, templates, and close checklists
Ensure a clean handover at the end of the interim period
