We are currently looking for Financial Accountant to join our Store Support Centre team in Brampton, Ontario. This role is an integral part of our Finance team, with sound knowledge of financial accounting principles (will be working in US GAAP) and excellent problem-solving skills. Flexible, with a good understanding of accounting flows and implications of entries in financial systems, they support the Senior Accounting Manager in the monthly accounting cycle functions. They maintain accuracy of the general ledger via account analysis and are responsible for preparation of monthly journal and adjusting entries.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for:
· Analyzing general ledger accounts for monthly variances and posting errors
· Maintaining accuracy of general ledger and account classification via preparation of correcting journal entries as necessary
· Reconciliation and analysis of balance sheet accounts
· Coordinating completion of all month end reconciliations and prepare account reconciliation checklist.
· Assisting with month-end closing by preparing journal entries, analyzing accounts, and adjusting entries or accruals as needed
· Monitoring and coordinating progress of month-end closing while liaising with Real Estate, Marketing, and other departments
· Assisting with preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements
· Fixed Asset Accounting
· Liaising with Real Estate and other departments to maintain accuracy of fixed asset subledger, manage asset allocation and disposition by preparing various monthly journal entries including depreciation/amortization of fixed assets, amortization of deferred assets and prepaid supplies and expenses
· Reconciling corporate bank accounts using system bank reconciliation function and maintaining and following up on outstanding cheque list
· Preparing sales tax returns
· Coordinating sales/use tax audits performed by tax authorities
· Assisting with all audits and audit requests
· Supporting compliance of all SOX controls and completing all required documentation/reconciliations
· Liaising with District Managers and municipalities to determine requirements necessary to keep licenses up to date
· Providing assistance through providing financial analyses, preparing schedules and researching responses to queries as required for external audits, internal audits and government audits as they arise
· Using knowledge of financial accounting principles to participate in special projects and prepare various financial analyses
· Conducting other financial analyses as requested from time to time, which may require the extraction of GL and subledger data from Navision and creation of reports in Excel or IMR
The skills and experience required for success in this role are:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar from four-year university program
· One to two years' experience is helpful but not required
· Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
· Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
· Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
· Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
· Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
· Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
· Highly organized individual with attention to detail
· Knowledge of Navision Accounting software is helpful but not necessary
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
