Student Dietary Aide

The County of Elgin is looking for students who are currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary Food or Nutrition program to work as a Student Dietary Aide over the summer 

Elgin Manor is a 90-bed long-term care facility situated in the Township of Southwold, just a few minutes outside of St. Thomas, Ontario. Each home area is equipped with recreation rooms, sitting areas, and television lounges to enhance programming, socialization, and visits from family and friends. Elgin Manor also features multiple outdoor garden patio areas and walkways in a tranquil rural setting, right in the heart of beautiful Elgin County.

Position Title: Dietary Aide Student

Type: Temporary, Part-time

Compensation: $27.11/hour as per collective agreement

About the Role:

As a Dietary Aide, you will be responsible for basic food preparation, assisting the Cook where needed, and handling food in accordance with safety and sanitary regulations.  You will also be responsible for service of food, setting and clearing tables, and receiving goods delivered to the dietary department. Attention to detail is key, as you will keep accurate records while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment (knowing the proper procedures for operating and cleaning all equipment, utensils, work services, etc. used in food service areas). 

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary Food or Nutrition program
• Current Food Handling Certificate
• A passion for serving others and providing quality care
• Excellent communication skills

Conditions of Employment:

• Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to the County of Elgin.
