About The Role
We are seeking a client-focused Controller to lead a portfolio of clients while overseeing the performance of our accounting team. This is not a back-office reporting role — it is a leadership position combining strategic financial oversight with operational accountability.
You will own financial leadership for your clients, ensure the quality and integrity of reporting, and lead, coach, and elevate a team of bookkeepers and senior accountants. You will drive process improvements, operational excellence, and be accountable for client satisfaction, retention, and growth.
In this role, you are both the financial brain and the operational backbone.
Key Responsibilities & Goals:

- Provide cash flow forecasting, budgeting support, and financial insight
- Guide clients through audits and year-end processes
- Translate financial data into business decisions
- Identify risks early and propose corrective action
- Participate in technical accounting discussions and complex transactions
Operational & Quality Oversight
- Review and approve financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Oversee full-cycle accounting and complex journal entries
- Conduct Internal Quality Audits (IQAs) across your portfolio
- Maintain 95%+ file quality standards
- Ensure 100% on-time sales tax filings (GST, HST, PST, PSB)
- Drive root-cause fixes when quality issues arise
Team Leadership & Enablement
- Lead and mentor a team of bookkeepers and senior accountants
- Hold regular coaching sessions and technical training
- Provide structured feedback to elevate delivery standards
- Host office hours for technical escalations
- Own performance outcomes across your portfolio
Client Success & Growth
- Serve as the primary financial lead for your portfolio
- Respond to client communication within 1 business day
- Resolve escalations within agreed timelines
- Collaborate with Sales and Client Success on onboarding
- Identify upsell opportunities where we can add value
What You Bring
- 8–10+ years in accounting or finance leadership roles

- CPA designation (required)
- Strong command of Canadian GAAP and tax regulations
- Deep experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dext, and cloud accounting tools
