Your opportunity
Dillon's Transportation group is seeking an Intermediate Civil/Transportation Technologist to join our Highways & Bridges Practice, with a primary focus on highway transportation infrastructure and associated Transportation Infrastructure / Field Services work. You'll support project delivery across the full project lifecycle – from early planning and functional/preliminary design through detailed design, tender-ready documentation support, and construction-phase field services.
This position is available in our Winnipeg or Brandon office, or from a surrounding area (aligned with project and team needs).
ResponsibilitiesProject Delivery (Design + Construction)
- Provide technical support on highway and transportation infrastructure projects within Dillon's Highways & Bridges Practice, including condition assessments, feasibility studies, functional/preliminary design, detailed design, and preparation of construction-ready drawing packages.
- Prepare or assist in preparing and developing CADD design deliverables, including horizontal/vertical alignments, plan and profile drawings, cross-sections, grading concepts/details, and roadway features (e.g., signage/markings, guardrail details as applicable), in accordance with project and client CAD standards.
- Support multidisciplinary teams by assisting with design development, compilation of deliverables, and coordination across disciplines (planners, environmental scientists, engineers, and technologists).
- Support construction-phase services including construction administration/advisory and field services (where applicable), such as site visits/field reviews, photo documentation, tracking deficiencies/issues, and maintaining communication with the project team and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, municipalities, utilities, and subconsultants to support design development and project delivery.
- Assist senior staff with quality control, design review support, and document management for drawings, calculations (where applicable), and related engineering deliverables.
- Prepare quantity take-offs and engineering estimates to support design alternatives, budgeting, and construction planning.
- Maintain working knowledge of municipal servicing standards and applicable provincial regulatory requirements, and stay current with industry guidelines and trends (e.g., TAC and other leading practices, as applicable).
Business Development
- Identify and support the development of new business opportunities.
- Contribute to proposal submissions (e.g., RFPs/RFQs) including gathering project information, preparing technical inputs, and supporting schedules and resourcing assumptions.
- Support the maintenance of existing client relationships through strong project delivery and client communication.
- Travel to other Dillon offices and project sites as required.
Learning & Development
- Commit to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
- Provide input to the development of junior staff through technical direction, coaching, mentoring, and training recommendations.
- Contribute to Dillon's profile through participation in professional associations and committees.
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or related program).
- 7+ years of progressive experience supporting transportation and/or municipal civil infrastructure projects.
- C.E.T. designation in Manitoba is an asset (or eligibility/intent to pursue designation is an asset).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in highway and transportation infrastructure design and delivery (design and/or construction support).
- Experience developing engineering drawings including horizontal/vertical alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and producing plan and profile drawing sets for new and rehabilitated transportation infrastructure.
- Experience preparing and performing QC review of drawings in accordance with project/client CAD standards.
- Familiarity with transportation infrastructure such as highways, interchanges, intersections, bridges/culverts (experience with bridge/culvert drawing coordination is an asset).
- Experience with quantity take-offs and estimating to support design and construction planning.
- Knowledge of integrated municipal infrastructure (roads, storm drainage, sewers, water mains, and related works) is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial standards and regulatory requirements; familiarity with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) standards/specifications is an asset.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads; experience with InfraWorks and visualization/graphics tools is an asset.
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to coordination with clients, utilities, and stakeholders.
