The Opportunity
As TVO continues to evolve as a digital-first learning and media organization, self-generated revenue plays an increasingly important role in sustaining and expanding our public service mandate.
To support this evolution, TVO is reinstating a senior executive leadership role focused on growth and revenue. The Vice President, Growth will provide clear ownership, strategic direction, and accountability for TVO's self-generated revenue, enabling reinvestment in education, innovation, and long-term public impact.
This role is central to TVO's financial sustainability and requires a leader who can balance commercial discipline with public trust, governance, and mission alignment.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President, Growth is the executive steward of TVO's growth and self-generated revenue strategy.
You will own the strategy, performance, and leadership of TVO's revenue-generating activities across the organization and will be accountable for delivering measurable, sustainable growth in self-generated revenue aligned with TVO's mandate, values, and risk profile.
You will operate at the intersection of public mandate and commercial discipline, translating audience trust, educational assets, and partnerships into long-term financial sustainability while safeguarding TVO's reputation, editorial integrity, and public accountability.
Key Accountabilities
Portfolio Leadership and Oversight
You will have executive responsibility for the strategy, performance, and evolution of TVO's growth and revenue portfolio, including:
Marketing and Audience Development Demand generation, audience engagement, and conversion strategies that support growth and revenue objectives.
Philanthropy and Sponsorships Donor strategy, stewardship, commercial partnerships, and sponsorships aligned with TVO's values and public trust.
Business Development and Commercial Partnerships Sales, partnership development, and strategic alliances that expand reach, impact, and revenue.
Commercialization Responsible commercialization of TVO's products, services, and intellectual property, including educational and digital assets.
Revenue Strategy and Performance
Own TVO's self-generated revenue strategy and results, including setting multi-year direction, establishing annual targets, and being accountable for revenue targets and performance management across all revenue streams.
Partner closely with Finance to align revenue strategy with budgeting, forecasting, reinvestment priorities, and financial sustainability goals.
Ensure active performance management and course correction where results are not being achieved.
Strategic Growth and Market Expansion
Identify opportunities to extend TVO's offerings, commercial partnerships, and capabilities into new or expanded markets, consistent with TVO's mandate and business plan.
Explore scalable and sustainable growth models, including technology-enabled, subscription-based, or partnership-driven approaches that diversify revenue and reduce reliance on a single stream.
Marketing and Audience Growth Leadership
Provide executive leadership for marketing as a strategic growth function.
Ensure audience development strategies are insight-driven, aligned with revenue objectives, and integrated across TVO's platforms, brands, and offerings.
Philanthropy, Sponsorships, and Partnerships
Strengthen TVO's philanthropy and sponsorship activities to increase financial contribution, long-term relationships, and mission-aligned impact.
Ensure all partnerships uphold TVO's values, public trust, editorial independence, and governance requirements.
Commercialization and Cross-Organizational Leadership
Work closely with Digital Learning and Digital and Innovation leadership to identify, evaluate, and advance revenue opportunities connected to TVO's educational products and platforms.
Ensure commercialization efforts are responsible, mission-aligned, scalable, and supported by appropriate governance.
Data-Informed Decision Making
Champion the use of audience, market, and performance insights to inform growth strategy and execution.
Translate data into clear priorities, actionable plans, and coherent narratives that support executive and Board-level decision-making.
Qualifications And Experience
Education
A university degree in business, marketing, economics, commerce, public administration, or a related field is required. A postgraduate degree is an asset.
Leadership Experience
Senior executive leadership experience with accountability for revenue growth in a complex organization, including responsibility for large, multi-disciplinary teams, material revenue targets, and complex stakeholder environments.
Demonstrated success growing revenue across multiple streams, including marketing, philanthropy, sponsorships, partnerships, business development, or commercialization.
Proven ability to operate at an enterprise level, balancing growth ambition with governance, risk management, and public accountability.
Commercial and Strategic Capability
Strong commercial and general management experience, including setting strategy, leading teams, and delivering results at scale.
Experience working across product, technology, content, and audience environments.
Experience with technology-enabled or subscription-based business models is a strong asset.
Sector and Context
Experience working within public sector, not-for-profit, education, or publicly accountable organizations is valued, but not required.
Demonstrated ability to apply commercial discipline within a mission-driven or values-based context.
