The Senior Technical Accountant is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate preparation of group financial statements. In addition, this role will serve as a technical accounting resource providing authoritative guidance on complex accounting matters, supporting consistent application of accounting policies/ guidelines across Seaspan, and partnering closely with Finance leadership, auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employees will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What you'll do

  • Coordinates the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting package for consolidated group. 
  • Collaborates with tax, treasury, and other finance teams to ensure the integrity and consistency of accounting records in accordance with GAAP and group reporting standards.
  • Provides direction on the preparation of month-end accounting entries, allocations, and the necessary eliminations to ensure accurate reporting of financial results for consolidated group.
  • Acts as a technical accounting resource to finance teams across the group with responsibility for leading technical accounting research, preparing formal accounting position papers, and supporting the implementation of new accounting policies/ guidelines and GAAP. 
  • Ensures the integrity of the general ledger through review and approval of monthly account reconciliations.
  • Support monthly capitalization, depreciation process and reporting for group fixed assets. 
  • Serves as key contact point with external auditors during the year-end audit process, responding to inquiries and preparing appropriate working papers and supporting schedules.
  • Conducts ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management to support decision-making, strategic planning, and business initiatives.
  • Contributes to a high-performing, highly engaged and diverse Controllership team.
  • Performs other ad hoc duties as necessary.

What you'll bring

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional accounting designation required.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience within a Big Four or other large public accounting firm, or in a structured, complex full-cycle accounting environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and internal control frameworks. 
  • Canadian GAAP (ASPE) knowledge would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems handling multi-entity and multi-currency operations. 
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis for financial reporting
  • Excellent people skills and ability to contribute effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks as part of a team or independently in a demanding environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable and confident in asking questions.

The estimated salary for this position is $112,500 - $137,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors, including the successful Candidate's skill set and experience, the position's location, and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
