Human Resources Business Partner (Employee Relations Focus)

Location: Edmonton Region, Alberta (multi-site presence required)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Model: On-site with regional travel

About the Opportunity:

We are conducting a confidential search for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to support multiple operational sites across Western Canada. This role is highly visible and hands-on, partnering directly with leaders and employees in fast-paced industrial environments.

The successful candidate will bring strong employee relations expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate both unionized and non-union settings. This is not a desk-based HR position — regular on-site presence and relationship-building across facilities is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee & Labour Relations:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to site leadership on employee relations matters including performance management, attendance, conduct issues, and workplace conflict.
  • Lead workplace investigations from intake through resolution, ensuring fair process, accurate documentation, and timely closure.
  • Support progressive discipline processes and, where applicable, grievance handling in alignment with collective agreements and internal standards.
  • Coach leaders on risk mitigation, consistent policy application, and effective employee communication.

HR Business Partnership:

  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance to operational leadership teams.
  • Support workforce planning initiatives including headcount tracking and organizational changes.
  • Maintain strong visibility within facilities to proactively identify and address people-related concerns.

Recruitment & Talent Support:

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment activities including intake discussions, screening, interviews, offer preparation, and onboarding coordination.
  • Partner with leaders to ensure hiring decisions align with operational and cultural needs.

Performance & Engagement:

  • Support performance review cycles, development discussions, and follow-up actions.
  • Collaborate with site leaders to strengthen employee engagement initiatives and workplace culture.

HR Administration & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate documentation related to investigations, discipline, attendance, and training compliance.
  • Respond to employee and leadership inquiries related to HR programs, benefits, and policies.
  • Support reporting requirements and workforce data analysis as needed.

Learning & Development Support:

  • Coordinate training initiatives to ensure completion of mandatory and role-specific requirements.
  • Assist in developing and promoting learning programs that support operational effectiveness.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and coach leaders.
  • Practical, solution-oriented mindset with sound decision-making ability.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable operating independently in a dynamic, operational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Travel & Site Presence:

  • Regular weekly presence required across multiple locations in the Edmonton region (including Sherwood Park, Nisku, and Camrose).
  • Ability to travel approximately one week per month to other Canadian operational sites as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

This opportunity is best suited for a mid-to-senior level HR professional who thrives in operational settings, values strong workplace relationships, and brings both structure and empathy to employee relations. The role offers meaningful impact, exposure to diverse business functions, and long-term growth potential within a complex, multi-site organization.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in an HRBP or Employee Relations-focused role.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee matters.
  • Experience working in both unionized and non-unionized environments.
  • Exposure to industrial, manufacturing, field operations, logistics, or similar operational settings is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing recruitment processes in addition to employee relations responsibilities.

Benefits

This role offers a competitive compensation package aligned with experience and scope of responsibility, including:

  • Competitive base salary
  • Annual performance-based bonus opportunity (company and individual components)
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Employer-supported retirement savings plan
  • Paid time off and statutory holidays
  • Employee assistance program
  • Ongoing professional development and internal growth opportunities
  • Relocation support may be considered for qualified candidates
