About Dairy Distillery Alliance
Dairy Distillery Alliance is a new organization that is taking milk permeate, a byproduct of
the dairy processing industry, and converting it to low carbon intensity ethanol that can be
used in gasoline or converted into Sustainable Aviation Fuel. The plant in Constantine, MI
is across the street from the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) where the milk
permeate is made. The permeate is piped to the distillery where it is fermented with yeast
and then purified in distillation. The waste stream from the distillation is combined with
MMPA's wastewater and treated in a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system. The
WWT system produces biogas to fuel the boilers with the treated effluent from the plant
being sent to the local river.
