Position Overview

The Lead Excavator Operator for our Underground Division is responsible for operating heavy excavation equipment to dig trenches for water and sewer installations at Professional Excavators & Construction Inc. This key position involves leading a crew while ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality throughout all excavation processes in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and other heavy machinery to dig trenches for water and sewer pipelines, ensuring precise alignment and depth.
  • Lead a team of excavator operators and laborers, coordinating daily activities and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and report any maintenance needs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and project plans to ensure accurate and efficient excavation processes.
  • Monitor job site safety and enforce compliance with safety regulations and best practices among team members.
  • Assist with the installation and backfilling of pipelines as needed, ensuring proper compaction and restoration of the work site.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and project objectives are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operating excavators, specifically for water and sewer projects.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience managing a team on excavation projects.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations regarding excavation and heavy equipment operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications.
  • Valid Heavy Equipment Operator License and other relevant certifications are preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor when necessary and work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required to meet project deadlines.
