Key Responsibilities:

  • Unpacks and distributes
    all food containers from caterer and get ready for next day pick up.
  • Organizes, prepares,
    and sets up for morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack; checks allergy
    list and place appropriate food / milk substitutions for individual
    children on room trays; takes temperature of food prior to serving into
    serving dishes; cover food with lid or wrap; store food in appropriate
    bins.
  • Checks food received in
    delivery bin from Caterer and checks temp and document; label and date
    food; rotate stock; check for spoilage.
  • Documents actions on
    monthly record sheets; ensures that appropriate menus are posted for
    parents and staff referral; checks with manager to ensure that Food
    Restrictions are up-to-date and posted in kitchen and playrooms.
  • Maintains all
    appliances including the dishwasher, freezer, fridge, oven, and stove by
    cleaning and completing all applicable tasks related to each appliance.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and
    wipes counter tops/shelves/pantry/bins/sinks/service trolleys.
  • Flushes all water taps
    for five minutes; submits flush and temperature logs to office.
  • Maintains floors by
    sweeping and washing.
  • Provides support to the
    staff and program by transferring laundry from washer to dryer; assists
    with "sleep time" and other routines when needed.
  • Other related duties as
    assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Secondary School completion or equivalency.
  • Food Service Worker Certificate (preference) or several completed courses from certificate in progress, along with successful completion of the Food Handler's course and Safety awareness.
  • One year minimum experience working in a busy food service environment preferably in a health or service industry.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
  • First aid certificate and Clear Criminal Record Check are required.
  • Job duties require recurring periods of moderate physical effort and periods of moderate lifting.

    willingness to learn and accept direction; must be able to be very job
    focused and have attention to detail.
  • Ability to exhibit excellent communication skills
    and interpersonal skills with the teaching staff, children, families, and
    all stakeholders; willingness to provide a service that enhances dignity
    and respect; high level of flexibility, must be courteous and patient.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a busy, noisy
    environment with interruptions while remaining calm and organized to meet
    the day to daytime lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform various cleaning
    duties, must be thorough and conscientious.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and
    display good judgment and have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal
    supervision; strong time-management skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent
    service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students
    and our Polytechnic.
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in
    participating in consultative decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrated
    commitment to uphold the Polytechnic's priorities on diversity and equity.
