Senior Radiation Physicist

As a Senior Radiation Physicist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting radiological safety assessments to protect our team and technology.
• Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Developing and deploying cutting-edge radiation detection systems.
• Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system.
• Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations.
• Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel.
• Developing ALARP justifications to support informed design decisions.

We’re looking for candidates who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. Ideally, you will have:

• A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
• Experience with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
• Familiarity with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

Our team is at the forefront of designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across multiple submarine programs at various engineering lifecycle stages, from designing new shields to conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning. We also conduct radiological safety studies, design innovative radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates across all submarine roles.
