School Caretaker

Basic Salary: £26,402

Contract: Full Time - 37.5 hours per week

Located in Andover, our school accommodates up to 60 pupils aged 5 to 18 years with a range of complex needs. As a School Caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring clean, safe, and secure school premises, including buildings and grounds.
• Performing cleaning, handy person activities, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Supervising school cleaning staff and promoting health and safety.
• Managing porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
• Maintaining the general premises and reporting issues to the Head Teacher.
• Carrying out small repairs and DIY projects.
• Arranging larger repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors.
• Conducting daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking.
• Handling emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and spill clean-ups.
• Coordinating an annual deep clean of frequently used spaces.
• Maintaining cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels.
• Securing the school premises as the main key holder.
• Conducting regular checks of security systems and reporting any breaches.
• Advising the Head Teacher on security and safety matters.
• Carrying out health and safety checks and reporting any issues.
• Providing safe access to the school during cold weather conditions.

To thrive in this role, you should have:

• Previous property maintenance or caretaking experience, preferably in a school environment.
• Experience in building maintenance and security systems.
• A solid understanding of health and safety regulations.
• Basic DIY skills and good interpersonal abilities.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• The ability to work effectively in an environment with SEMH children.
• A willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
• A valid UK Driving License and access to your own transport.
