About Our SchoolLocated in Andover, our school accommodates up to 60 pupils aged 5 to 18 years with a range of complex needs. We are dedicated to creating a positive and supportive environment where every child feels valued, respected, and empowered. Your Role and ResponsibilitiesAs a School Caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring clean, safe, and secure school premises, including buildings and grounds.
- Performing cleaning, handy person activities, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Supervising school cleaning staff and promoting health and safety.
- Managing porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
- Maintaining the general premises and reporting issues to the Head Teacher.
- Carrying out small repairs and DIY projects.
- Arranging larger repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors.
- Conducting daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking.
- Handling emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and spill clean-ups.
- Coordinating an annual deep clean of frequently used spaces.
- Maintaining cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels.
- Securing the school premises as the main key holder.
- Conducting regular checks of security systems and reporting any breaches.
- Advising the Head Teacher on security and safety matters.
- Carrying out health and safety checks and reporting any issues.
- Providing safe access to the school during cold weather conditions.
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- Previous property maintenance or caretaking experience, preferably in a school environment.
- Experience in building maintenance and security systems.
- A solid understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Basic DIY skills and good interpersonal abilities.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- The ability to work effectively in an environment with SEMH children.
- A willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
- A valid UK Driving License and access to your own transport.
