Senior Heavy Civil/Structural Engineer (Bridge, Tunnel, Marine)

Halifax

Permanent, Full-Time

Hybrid

Do you want to join a highly professional team of engineers providing consulting, project management, and detailed engineering services on a variety of exciting design projects? Are you motivated by the opportunities to expand your skills into bridge, tunnel, and marine structures across North America? If you thrive in an environment that encourages innovation and professional growth while supporting clients, colleagues, and the planet, then read on—this could be your ideal opportunity.

Create the solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

COWI is looking for a Heavy Civil/Structural Engineer to become part of our collaborative team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with experts on some of North America's most impactful projects, primarily focusing on exciting bridge, tunnel, and marine work. We believe in developing versatile engineers who can apply their skills across various disciplines, encouraging a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform structural analysis, design, and evaluation, preparing calculations, drawings, work plans, schedules, and budgets focused on heavy civil projects.
  • Create standard documents such as technical specifications under applicable design codes, engineering reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Liaise with clients, professionals, and third parties to ensure project completion and facilitate knowledge exchange.
  • Collaborate with CAD and BIM modelers to bring our clients' visions to life, including projects that integrate different engineering disciplines.
  • Manage the project delivery for small teams under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Conduct inspections and site visits, enhancing your firsthand experience in diverse environments.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.

The first step to growth in this role is that you are ready to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or higher, with a minimum of 8 years of related experience in heavy civil structural design (bridge, tunnel, marine structures), or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer in home province or state, or ability to obtain registrations within 12 months of employment
  • Be familiar with the use of structural design codes such as CSA:S6, and/or AASHTO along with having sufficient exposure to structural analysis software programs (ex: CSiBridge, MIDAS, SOFiSTiK)
  • Be conversant in the use of engineering software, such as Mathcad or Excel, to efficiently produce engineering calculations
  • Be proficient in the production and delivery of technical documents
