The Lead Excavator Operator for our Underground Division is responsible for operating heavy excavation equipment to dig trenches for water and sewer installations at Professional Excavators & Construction Inc. This key position involves leading a crew while ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality throughout all excavation processes in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
Operate excavators and other heavy machinery to dig trenches for water and sewer pipelines, ensuring precise alignment and depth
Lead a team of excavator operators and laborers, coordinating daily activities and ensuring adherence to safety protocols
Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and report any maintenance needs
Read and interpret blueprints and project plans to ensure accurate and efficient excavation processes
Monitor job site safety and enforce compliance with safety regulations and best practices among team members
Assist with the installation and backfilling of pipelines as needed, ensuring proper compaction and restoration of the work site
Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and project objectives are met
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience in operating excavators, specifically for water and sewer projects
Proven leadership abilities with experience managing a team on excavation projects
Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations regarding excavation and heavy equipment operation
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
Valid Heavy Equipment Operator License and other relevant certifications are preferred
Physical ability to perform manual labor when necessary and work in various weather conditions
Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required to meet project deadlines
