**Border Patrol Agent Role Overview**
As a Border Patrol Agent , you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's borders, preventing illicit activity, and promoting economic prosperity. This challenging and rewarding position offers an opportunity to work with highly trained professionals who embody camaraderie, pride, and purpose.
### Key Responsibilities:
- Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration laws while inspecting documents and possessions for citizenship verification.
- Prevent undocumented noncitizens from entering or leaving the country by maintaining surveillance at border checkpoints.
- Develop physical evidence tracking skills to identify illegal entry points.
### Essential Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess excellent decision-making skills under pressure as well as strong analytical abilities. Experience in law enforcement is advantageous but not necessary; however, those with prior experience can qualify at higher grade levels (GL-9/GS-11). The minimum requirements include:
- a bachelor's degree OR
- a combination of education & general work experience totaling one year OR
- one year of specialized work experience demonstrating critical thinking & problem-solving ability.*
