The primary responsibility of a Border Patrol Agent is to safeguard the nation's borders from illegal entry and immigration law violations.

• Detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration laws in an effort to prevent border breaches.
• Utilize advanced surveillance equipment, such as sensors, cameras, and other tools to track down smugglers at or near the border.
• Analyze tracks, signs, and physical evidence gathered during patrols to identify potential breach points by unauthorized aliens attempting to enter the country illegally.

A successful candidate will work outdoors in diverse weather conditions with varying degrees of remote terrain. The job demands self-restraint while working individually for extended periods under minimal supervision on uneven terrain.​​
