Role Summary
Looking for an experienced Mainframe TSA / Development Lead to lead the migration of legacy FOCUS applications to COBOL and JCL (SORT/ICETOOL) on the mainframe.
This role requires strong technical leadership, hands-on development, and experience in legacy modernization programs.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead migration from FOCUS to COBOL/JCL solutions
Own end-to-end technical design and architecture decisions
Review designs, code standards, and migration strategies
Mentor and guide development teams
Migration & Modernization
Analyze FOCUS programs and define migration approach
Convert FOCUS logic into optimized COBOL batch & SORT/ICETOOL processes
Support data validation, reconciliation, and parallel runs
Optimize and simplify legacy logic where possible
Development & Support
Develop/review COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM components
Ensure efficient use of SORT and ICETOOL utilities
Support system testing, performance tuning, and production deployment
Assist in post-migration stabilization and defect fixes
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work with business analysts, app owners, and platform teams
Communicate risks, dependencies, and progress
Ensure proper documentation and knowledge transfer
Required Skills (Must Have)
Strong experience in Mainframe Development & Technical Architecture
Expert in:
COBOL
JCL (including SORT & ICETOOL)
DB2 (SQL & performance tuning)
VSAM (KSDS, ESDS, RRDS)
Experience in legacy system migration/modernization
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
Knowledge of FOCUS and/or SAS
Experience migrating FOCUS to COBOL/SORT/ICETOOL
Mainframe batch optimization & performance tuning
Financial Services domain experience
