Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Field Inspector to oversee FTTH construction projects. The ideal candidate will ensure that all fieldwork complies with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications. This role involves on-site inspections, quality control, and coordination with construction teams, contractors, and stakeholders to guarantee timely and high-quality delivery of fiber optic installations to homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily on-site inspections of FTTH construction activities, including trenching, conduit and cable laying, splicing, and equipment installation.
- Verify compliance with engineering plans, blueprints, and local regulations (e.g., utility locates, permits, and environmental guidelines).
- Identify and document any deviations, defects, or safety hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve issues and maintain project timelines.
- Perform quality assurance tests on conduit structure, fiber optic cables, connections, and terminations using specialized tools (e.g., pressure tester, OTDR, power meters).
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, including photos, measurements, and progress updates, for internal records and client reviews.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols, including PPE usage and risk assessments.
- Monitor material ordering, usage and inventory to prevent waste and ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Provide training and guidance to field crews on best practices for FTTH installations.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and final handover inspections.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in telecommunications, engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in fiber optic construction, telecommunications fieldwork, or a similar inspection role.
- Certification in fiber optics (e.g., CFOT, FOA certifications) or construction safety (e.g., OSHA or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of FTTH deployment processes, including aerial, underground, and in-home installations.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as TIA/EIA, NEC, and local building codes.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites (company vehicle provided).
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
