PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
Under the direction of the Manager, the Driver - 1 is responsible for safely operating straight trucks to deliver and pick up bulk and packaged products for MCS patrons and facilities. This entry‑level role focuses on developing foundational driving, loading, and customer service skills while following established routes, safety standards, and operational procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
VEHICLE OPERATION & SAFETY
- Operates single‑axle or light tandem straight trucks in accordance with safety standards and company procedures.
- Conducts daily pre‑trip inspections including fluid levels, tires, brakes, lights, and safety equipment.
- Maintains a clean, safe vehicle and follows preventative maintenance requirements.
LOADING, UNLOADING & PRODUCT HANDLING
- Loads and unloads feed, crop inputs, hardware, and energy products manually or with a forklift.
- Ensures loads are secure, balanced, and compliant with MTO regulations.
- Protects product quality and handles materials carefully.
DELIVERY & CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Follows established delivery routes and schedules with attention to timeliness.
- Provides courteous, professional customer service.
- Reports customer concerns, feedback, or service issues to branch staff.
DOCUMENTATION & COMPLIANCE
- Accurately completes bills of lading, transfer forms, weigh tickets, invoices, and daily truck reports.
- Ensures licenses, permits, and inspection documents are current and stored in the vehicle.
- Follows all laws, regulations, and company policies.
TEAMWORK & BRANCH SUPPORT
- Assists with inter‑branch product movement.
- Supports general branch operations as needed.
- Works collaboratively as part of the MCS team.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Follow all health and safety requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including using required protective equipment, following safety procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
- Follow all company personnel policies, including expectations related to training, performance, and conduct.
- Participate in required MCS training such as Ministry of Labour courses, Health & Safety Standards, Policies, and AODA accessibility training.
- Work cooperatively with approved contractors and follow all related safety procedures when contractors are on site.
- Maintain any required licenses, certifications, or regulatory requirements needed for your role.
- Perform other assigned duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
- Class G required, DZ driver's license would be considered an asset.
- Must be at least 25 years of age and have a minimum of 3 years experience with class of driver's license required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications such as forklift, WHMIS, and TDG.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Customer service focus and willingness to learn new processes.
- Ability to lift materials within company and regulatory limits.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily works outdoors or in warehouse setting in all weather conditions.
- Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and agricultural or fuel-related odours.
- Exposure to varied road, traffic, and weather conditions; loading and unloading may occur outdoors.
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and the ability to lift up to 25 kg.
- Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods or special events
