As a key member of ENMAX Power's Planning and Customer Experience leadership team, the Director, Integrated System Planning provides strategic and technical leadership to the Transmission and Distribution Integrated System Planning teams. This role is accountable for enabling responsible growth and supporting the energy transition through robust, innovative system planning and asset management practices. The Director leads the development of integrated system plans and capital business cases that align with prudent sustainment and growth plans and maximizes value for customers.

The Director establishes long-term asset management objectives and capital investment plans to manage transmission and distribution system capacity and reliability. This includes developing and defending business cases and capital plans that form the basis of regulatory applications, as well as representing ENMAX Power in regulatory proceedings to support the needs of Calgary's grid today and into the future.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Champion ENMAX Power system reliability, safety and environmental needs by developing sound business cases and capital justification documents to ensure ENMAX establishes prudent capital programs for Transmission and Distribution systems and delivers the highest value for customers.

  • Lead the development of strategy for Transmission and Distribution Integrated System Planning.

  • Provide a key role on ENMAX Power's leadership team advancing Asset Management system maturity in alignment with ISO 55000 and Institute of Asset Management frameworks.

  • Provide capital investment prioritization direction to ENMAX Power senior leadership based on risk-based and evidence-based decision making, while balancing optimized grid investment between sustaining capital and growth capital.

  • Enable the Energy transition and responsible growth by defining and implementing innovative planning practices through adoption of new technologies, methodologies, best practices and evolving needs of customers.

  • Represent ENMAX Power as the owner of capital projects and programs, sponsoring the full project lifecycle, including delivering project initiation, followed by monitoring and controlling during execution and ensuring appropriate close-out activities.

  • Establish and deliver on the annual Integrated System Plan for Transmission and Distribution, including a long-term projection that optimizes the program based on ENMAX Power's value framework.

  • Lead the load forecast, system assessment, and technical planning studies for Transmission and Distribution.

  • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Transmission and Distribution Integrated System Plans, including planning criteria are regularly updated and maintained.

  • Provide strategic level support and guidance for stakeholder consultation in accordance with AUC Rule 007, for facilities applications. 

  • Establish and maintain strong positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including other utilities, industry associations the Alberta Electric System Operator and Alberta Utilities Commission.

  • Ensure the team's long-term strategy is aligned with departmental goals, objectives and corporate standards, guidelines and policies.

Education Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or another related field.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a regulated utility planning team.

  • 15 years relevant industry experience with related leadership roles for at least 5 years.

  • Excellent understanding and experience with electric utility engineering, system planning and asset management standards and industry best practices is critical to the success of the role. 

  • Previous work experience in a regulated environment would be considered a very strong asset, including requirements to plan, document and communicate prudent capital investment in service of customers.

  • Experience and knowledge of financial planning and budgeting functions.

Location:  This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) workforce with office workspace located at ENMAX Place th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB) . You will have the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays and will be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
