The Host welcomes guests to the restaurant and provides fast, courteous, and professional service to ensure an enjoyable dining experience and encourage repeat business. This role plays a key part in setting the tone for exceptional guest service.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesGreet guests promptly and courteously upon arrival.
Seat guests in a manner that ensures balanced workloads among servers.
Maintain an accurate waiting list and notify guests when tables become available.
Assist the Manager or Supervisor with opening duties such as assigning server stations and reviewing daily specials.
Process take-out orders and may answer room service calls to process orders using suggestive selling techniques.
Receive customer payments from servers and process transactions in accordance with cash and charge procedures.
Provide accurate change, balance cash drawer at end of shift, and complete all opening/closing paperwork including documenting voids.
Assist bus staff with clearing, cleaning, and resetting tables as required.
Respond quickly and courteously to guest requests and follow up to ensure satisfaction.
Maintain a professional appearance and uphold brand image standards at all times.
Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with restaurant and kitchen staff.
Perform other duties as assigned while following all Company and Marriott Brand Standards.
Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
Minimum 6 months of cash handling or food service experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Friendly, outgoing personality with a hospitality-focused mindset.
Ability to lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to remain standing or stationary for extended periods.
Frequent movement throughout the restaurant.
Handling food items, plates, trays, glasses, and service materials.
Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting.
Communication skills are frequently utilized when interacting with guests, servers, cooks, and supervisors.
Alcohol awareness certification and/or valid food handler certification as required by provincial regulations.
Reading and writing abilities are used when processing orders and completing paperwork.
Basic math skills are required for handling cash and credit transactions.
May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Area: Restaurant, lounge, room service, and other F&B areas.
Follow safe work procedures as outlined in departmental policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
Comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulations in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Labour.
Report all workplace injuries or illnesses immediately to a supervisor or manager.
Participate in Joint Health and Safety initiatives and bring forward concerns to the committee.
