The SFU Scheduling team oversees the scheduling of SFU's undergraduate and graduate credit courses. It is a service-driven department, providing support to academic departments in the creation of class schedules in goSFU and allocating general teaching space as dictated by university policy.

About the Role

The Coordinator, Academic Scheduling supports the Associate Director, Academic Scheduling, with the day-to-day management and efficient operation of the Schedules unit. The role configures system setup tables, negotiates room and time moves with departments to optimize scheduling, and develops and maintains training resources for scheduling staff. The role participates in planning key deadlines for timetable and exam schedule production, conducts user acceptance testing, and investigates scheduling software issues in collaboration with Information Technology Services. The role collects data, and designs and produces reports to optimize space utilization. The role provides training to departmental administrative personnel, creates communication plans for schedule deadlines and procedures, and supports the recruitment and supervision of temporary student staff during exam periods. By ensuring accurate scheduling processes and effective communication with academic departments, the role contributes to the smooth functioning of the University's academic scheduling operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a relevant discipline and three years of related experience, which includes experience with space management and online scheduling applications, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Good knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Excellent planning, time management, decision-making, organizational, interpersonal, analytical reasoning, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal, conflict resolution, organizational, research, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze and to resolve problems quickly, efficiently, and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency using academic scheduling software, Student Information Management Systems, Tableau.
