Communications and Media Manager (12-Month Contract)
WHO WE ARE: A community of philanthropists and changemakers. We're a grantmaking foundation, but we give differently. At SVP, we've re-imaged the role philanthropy can play in our communities. Through our venture philanthropy model, we find, fund, strengthen, and scale nonprofits with the ultimate goal of helping vulnerable children, youth, and families in B.C. thrive. We also strive to educate and engage philanthropists. To do this, we use the time, talent, treasure and ties of the SVP community--our 150+ SVP Partners (our donors), the SVP team, and our 30+ nonprofit organizations (our Investees and Alumni). We want to change the game for nonprofits, the kids they support, and the nonprofit sector as a whole.
HOW WE WORK: We foster a people-first culture, recognizing that meaningful change happens when our team members feel valued and empowered. Our work can at times be fast-paced but not at the sake of work-life balance. Collaboration is in our DNA—we bring together donors and community leaders to drive change. It is also a core part of our work culture. We are a small team of problem-solvers who wear many hats, often shifting between different priorities and responsibilities within the same day. We strive to be flexible, take initiative, and embrace the complexity that is inherent in our work. We celebrate different workstyles and bring our whole selves to work. We work hybrid workweeks in Vancouver and we enjoy spending one and a half days (or more) together in our shared office. Given the nature of this role, we require the successful candidate to be a resident of B.C. and within commuting distance of Vancouver, B.C.
THE JOB: This 12-month fixed-term contract role is focused on strengthening SVP's visibility, storytelling, and Partner (donor) engagement through effective communications and media. The Communications & Media Manager leads day-to-day execution across earned media, digital channels, content, and event communications, ensuring SVP's impact is clearly communicated, while maintaining alignment with SVP's brand, key messages, and strategic priorities.
Our ideal candidate has the job-specific skills, knowledge, experience & expertise listed below.
1. Media Relations & Public Visibility (35%)
Demonstrated experience pitching and building relationships to secure earned media.
Ability to support SVP's external visibility by coordinating and enabling press, speaking engagements, panels, podcasts, and similar opportunities.
Experience preparing clear briefing materials and key messages to support SVP spokespeople in external engagements.
2. Event Communications & Engagement (20%)
Experience planning and executing communications for events including pre-, during-, and post-event communications that extend reach and impact.
Comfort supporting sponsorship-related outreach, communications and coordination, as part of event delivery.
Ability to capture and repurpose event content to maximize long-term value across channels.
3. Content Writing, Editing & Storytelling Excellence (30%)
Strong writing and editing skills, with experience translating complex information and outcomes into compelling narratives that resonate emotionally and credibly.
Ability to maintain alignment with brand attributes and key messages across channels and audiences, ensuring content resonates with Partners (donors) while reflecting the values and voice of nonprofit partners.
Experience planning and managing a content calendar, including sourcing, curating, and prioritizing stories to ensure content is timely, relevant, and impactful.
4. Digital Communications & Channel Management (15%)
Hands-on experience managing digital channels such as websites, email newsletters, and LinkedIn; experience with SEO and SEM (Google Ads) is an asset.
Ability to amplify events, media coverage, and speaking engagements through coordinated digital content.
Comfort using analytics to assess performance, learn what resonates, and continuously improve content.
A typical month might include:
Pitching and building relationships with media to increase SVP's external visibility through press, speaking engagements, panels, podcasts, and similar opportunities.
Amplify events (pre & post), media coverage, and speaking engagements through coordinated digital content across channels.
Planning, managing, and executing a content calendar, including sourcing, curating, and prioritizing stories then drafting communications including newsletter, blog post, press releases, and LinkedIn posts for current Partners (donors) and external audiences.
Maintaining content workflows, calendars, and systems that support consistency, follow-through, and improved content capture and distribution over time.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys a mix of strategy and hands-on execution across media, content, digital channels, and events to translate impact into increased visibility, engagement, and stronger relationships in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Communications and Media Manager is accountable to the CEO.
