Summary

The Process Improvement Engineer – Extrusion plays a critical role in driving operational excellence across Mattr's Toronto site. This position leads process improvement initiatives, supports process development projects, and strengthens manufacturing capabilities across extrusion lines. By applying advanced data‑driven problem solving and engineering expertise, this role ensures safe operations, enhances product quality, increases efficiency, and supports new process introductions that directly influence plant performance and customer satisfaction.



Responsibilities

  • Lead process engineering support for product engineering, product development, product management, and quality teams to optimize current and new processes using data‑driven problem‑solving techniques.
  • Execute process improvement projects that strengthen line efficiencies, reduce cost variances, increase product margins, and improve quote competitiveness.
  • Provide daily technical support on the production floor to supervisors, operators, and maintenance staff to ensure smooth operations and meet quality and sales objectives.
  • Conduct trial and testing campaigns related to extrusion technologies, validate tooling, analyze process data, and support development of processing strategies.
  • Deliver knowledge transfer through peer training, mentoring junior members, and supporting embedded learning within the team.
  • Support Environmental Health & Safety initiatives and ensure adherence to internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, to achieve project deliverables on time and within budget.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial/Engineering discipline (MBA or MSc considered an asset).
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment with practical knowledge of process improvement and manufacturing systems.
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand complex engineering and scientific relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience with polymer processing or adjacent industries, extrusion technologies, and industrial operations.
  • High proficiency in analyzing complex datasets and using data acquisition tools.
  • Strong project management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to influence others without direct authority.
  • Experience applying Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to challenges, troubleshoot in live production environments, and manage multiple priorities.

The compensation for this position is anticipated to be between $68,000 and $85,000 annually, which includes base salary and target incentive. The final total compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
