The Student Promotional Coordinator (SPC) is an entry-level position working in a team environment as part of the Student Events Unit (SEU) where the SPC is responsible for promoting all programming initiatives taken on by UASUevents to enhance student life. The primary focus of the SPC will be to assist in a logistical capacity while directing promotional aspects of the Students' Union events (UASUevents). The SPC will report to the Manager, Programming. The SPC will be responsible for the capture, creation, and distribution of promotional material for UASUevents. In addition, the SPC will also be involved in all aspects of the UASUevents Portfolio. The Student Events Unit is looking to fill one SPC position within this portfolio.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Be responsible for keeping all UASUevents promotional and informational platforms updated, including social media, website, the UASUevents Network, and more.
  2. Assist in the planning, marketing, recruitment, and implementation of Students' Union programming and special events including, but not limited to: Week of Welcome, New Student Orientation, Campus Cup, AntiFreeze, Movie Nights, SUBstage Sessions, Night at the Horrorwitz, Last Class Bash, Trivia Nights, Karaoke, Music Bingo and other events hosted by or in partnership with UASUevents
  3. Be responsible for assisting other SEU staff in creating material used to promote every aspect of UASUevents.
  4. Manage digital assets including the UASUevents Network and digital media projects (still images, videos) for UASUevents
  5. Assist in all aspects of event management including: logistics, volunteer management, content creation, and same-day coordination
  6. Support other SEU staff members in their responsibilities as needed to ensure the success of the entire UASUevents portfolio
  7. Develop and maintain the volunteer group Media Team. Work within guidelines and recommendations related to volunteer management as set by the organization
  8. Submit regular reports including monthly reports and project reports
  9. Create and update a transition manual for the position
  10. Train within the Horowitz Events Centre in a variety of event roles
  11. Perform other job-related duties as required by the Manager, Programming or the Senior Manager, Student Events and Services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be registered as an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta during the term of employment, and must be a Students' Union member.
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to work with people in a respectful, diplomatic and credible manner.
  • Experience creating short form media content
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites applications, are a requirement. Experience with Mac operating systems, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Lightroom, Illustrator, and Photoshop) will be considered an asset.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Digital photography and video editing experience are an asset

  • Experience creating professional promotional material, presentations, and templates is considered an asset
  • Mailing List management, Social Media platform content creation, and website content management. 
  • A valid Alberta Driver's License

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This is a 12 Month Contract - May 1st, 2026 to April 30th, 2027
  • 37.5 hours per week May– August, 25 hours per week September - April
  • Willingness and ability to work varying hours – including weekends and evenings.
