This newly established role will support the Labour Relations team, who are responsible for supporting leaders across the organization to ensure effective administration of collective agreements and to maintain positive and productive relations with network Unions.
The Labour Relations Analyst supports the Labour Relations team by providing critical analytical, research, case management, and operational coordination to enable effective strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Director, Labour Relations, this position supports the Labour Relations team through data analysis, case law research, comprehensive case file preparation, coordination of labour relations processes (e.g. grievance/arbitration scheduling) and maintenance of department tracking systems and metrics.
As a new role, this position offers the rare opportunity to build and define the analytical capabilities of the Labour Relations team. The successful candidate will have significant input into designing the tools, processes, and reporting structures that will support evidence-based labour relations strategy across a complex, heavily unionized, multi-site healthcare organization.
Responsibilities
Research, Summary, and Analysis:
Analyze trends in tracked labour relations data to generate actionable strategic insights that influence organizational decision-making on grievance handling, arbitration strategy, and resource allocation
Prepare data visualizations and briefing materials for senior leadership
Prepare comprehensive written summaries and analysis of collective agreement language, case law, legislative changes, and emerging hospital-sector labour relations issues
Prepare case summaries of grievances exercising professional judgement to identify legally and strategically relevant issues, and assess evidence strength
Support financial modelling and costing exercises for collective bargaining
Tailor research and summaries for organizational education and training
Occasionally provide backup coverage for Labour Relations Business Partner
Quality Improvement
Maintain and improve departmental filing, cataloguing, and data tracking systems
Develop and apply data quality standards, audits, and documentation protocols
Design templates and processes to standardize labour relations processes and reporting
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and leverage technology (including AI) for improved efficiency
Administration And Coordination
Schedule and coordinate arbitration proceedings, grievance meetings, and union meetings with arbitrators, unions, legal counsel, and organizational leadership
Maintain timely and accurate tracking of labour relations activities (grievances, invoices, arbitrations, bargaining)
Coordinate assembly of disclosure materials responsive to union requests, exercising judgement about document relevance and managing timelines
Compile case files for collective bargaining, arbitrations, and other collective agreement processes
Implement grievance, arbitration, and collective bargaining settlements by coordinating with multiple departments and ensuring compliance
Manage accounts payable for labour relations activities
Manage, coordinate, and review compliance with mandatory collective agreement reporting requirements
Prepare meeting notes and minutes
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Statistics, or related field
Professional HR designation (CHRP, CHRL) preferred
Experience
2-5 years of experience in labour relations, human resources, or related analytical role
Experience with grievance handling, arbitration processes, or collective agreement administration
Demonstrated experience in data analysis and reporting
Experience conducting legal or case law research
Required Skills
Strong analytical skills with ability to identify trends and patterns in complex datasets
Experience creating dashboards, KPI trackers, and data visualizations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights
Understanding of collective agreement grievance and arbitration procedures
Exceptional organizational skills with ability to manage multiple complex files simultaneously
Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to work independently
Detail-oriented approach to quality control and data integrity
Advanced Excel skills and willingness to learn new analytical tools
High degree of discretion and ability to handle confidential information
