Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance functions at WINS. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information while supporting organizational stability and operational effectiveness.
As part of the Business Support Team, the Accounting Manager works collaboratively with departments across WINS to support the organization's integrated charity and retail model. This position plays an important role in maintaining strong financial controls, supporting audits, and providing reliable financial reporting and operational supports during periods of growth and operational change.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Management
Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close processes.
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian accounting standards (ASNPO/Canadian GAAP).
Generate monthly budget variance reports and provide analysis to the CFO and department leaders.
Support financial management of grants including budget tracking, reporting, and compliance.
Provide oversight and back-up for payroll processing in compliance with Canadian payroll regulations.
Financial Planning and Reporting Support
Assist the CFO in preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
Monitor cash flow and provide updates on liquidity and financial position.
Maintain financial reporting tools and support development of financial models.
Track key financial and operational performance indicators (KPIs) and identify trends or variances.
Audit, Risk and Compliance
Coordinate annual organizational and program audits and liaise with auditors.
Ensure compliance with statutory remittances and filings including T3010, GST, T4, and AGLC.
Maintain corporate registrations, licenses, and required filings.
Support maintenance of internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Assist in monitoring corporate insurance documentation and risk-related records.
Internal Controls and Systems
Ensure strong internal controls across accounting operations.
Support process improvements and system enhancements.
Collaborate with Business Support Team and IT providers to ensure financial systems operate efficiently.
Organizational Support
Participate in the strategic planning and monitoring of the operational performance.
Support preparation of meeting materials for the Finance & Audit Committee.
Support new Business Development initiatives and other organizational priorities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPA designation or actively working toward CPA designation preferred.
Experience
Five to eight years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASNPO/Canadian GAAP).
Experience coordinating audits and managing compliance requirements.
Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll processing.
Experience in not-for-profit, charity, or social enterprise sector is an asset.
Experience with Sage 50 Accounting software and Power BI is an asset.
Grant accounting experience is an asset.
